The only fox I ever shot with a borrowed 17 Rem at about
30 yards was nearly blown in half with a rib shot.
The other two I killed with head shots with the .22LR.

Bill:
I test fired for comparison one time.

.222mag 55gr
'06 150 and `180s'.
7mm 175
.375H&H 270gr.

At a 1 1/2" scraper blade propped up solid so there was NO movement.

The depth was the same with every one of them.

Only the diameter of the crater was wider for the bigger slugs.

Yes, it surprised me much. Had three witness's at the time. All dead now.

1/4" steel is nothing, even a .22LR should dent it.

Put some velocity with it!
