65 gr GameKing
I can't address your rifle issues, but I have used the 65gr GameKing to take over a dozen deer - both mulies and whitetail. I think that Sierra claims it is a GameKing for .22 caliber size game, and not recommended for deer. With one exception, I restricted myself to head shots only and maximum 150 yards. My rifle grouped 5 shots at 0.5" repeatedly, and I always shot from a rest. Nothing ever walked away from it.
My only exception was shooting back-up on a big buck on a bluff that dropped straight into the Missouri river, about 150 feet down. The original shot was good, and my back-up wasn't needed, but the bullet broke a rib going in, through the lungs and broke another rib going out, coming to rest just under the hide at a range of ~250 yards. Bullet was badly deformed but largely intact.
