You can IMPROVE any cartridge without setting the barrel back, wildcats like Gibbs cartridges actually move the shoulder forward so no set back is necessary.
You can use a 223 AI reamer to improve an existing 223 with out setting it back and you have a 223 Improved 40 degree but not a 223 AI. You can even use 223/.378 competition shell holders that are thicker to adjust for the extra length in headspace.
I hand ream 223 barrels to 22-204 and 6x47 Rem to 6mm-204 or otherwise know as the 222 Rem Mag Improved and 6x47mm Improved that don't need for custom dies, fireforming or setting back the barrel.

Exactly - not a REAL AI chamber if the barrel is not set back - however, setting the barrel back in not requisite for simply "improving" a chamber.
The "A" came in, in being able to fire factory ammo. I don't do that, thus not necessary.
My .375 Ackley IMP is not really an Ackley IMP ctg. - as there is no factory .375 ctg. on the '06 case. This does not matter at all, to me.
