Hi BG17,
Yes it was good to bring home some venison. Ian was the one who shot it being his turn on the rifle while I drove. We were actually looking for rabbits but they are so scarce at the moment I seriously doubt their is enough to have the normal breeding explosion in Spring we normally see on this farm. We did shoot good numbers of rabbits all through the drought but now that it has rained we suspect Calici and Mixo have decimated the rabbits. As you say they will bounce back but it will take awhile.

I have only had back straps given to me which I have used for Steak Sandwiches. This is the first deer where I have been in on the kill so to speak. I have a Hind Quarter and a Back Strap in the fridge setting. I will separate it into the different pieces in a couple days. IE Top side, Bottom round, Corned meat etc. I will have to do a bit of research on the best ways to cook the different pieces.
