George I have Jack's Mt. Stocks do mine BUT you will need a pattern for him to copy. If it's going to be a Rem SA or CZ, you can use the patterns I have up there and just send wood.

Thanks Ray:
All I'm looking for a standard Classic Plus 1/8"
to make it thicker in the butt, wrist and all around since this is planned to be a replacement for that apparently stolen .358U/M project I laid aside last yr when this sickness hit me. Still haven't found it.

Hurts when I had nearly a grand in everything and only needed to finishe the inletting and outside, then send 'er back to the smith for bluing and polish.
This is one thing I've held back on reporting stolen. Six months or more it's questionable whether ins will add it on or not. Then the fact of not having receipts for anything and many parts coming from all around too don't help matters.

Md is a long way to ship wood back n forth from CO too. Though I might.
Am waiting on Kevin Weaver to reply to my msgs. Sure hope this delay isn't an indication of his wifes health matters. Last I heard she was back on chemo for the brain tumor. You guys should point some of your prayers that way. They're young and have some early teen kids. Would be a shame if this got her.

Bose's Guns, Emerson, Nebraska. Just google Bose's Guns. His site has all the info. Had him modify the butt stock on one (raised the comb & shortened the forearm)) & he did a beautiful job. He will need a stock to put in the duplicating machine, but be aware that the modification you want will result in that stock being sacrificed, as he will have to add material (body putty) to reshape to your desires. Using a cheap synthetic stock or a damaged wood stock for the mods for duplication would be your best option.

Thanks, hoping to hear from a local guy yet. Assume he's off hunting as it's season here.
Most turners have Classic stock patterns. IF they do it much that is.

Default classic style

You mention a classic style but which action inletting are you looking for? The 1/8" oversize means you will need a modified, and probably a one time only pattern, unless there is something the guy running the duplicator can do?

How about Bullberry Barrel Works? They do custom wood work and have a fast turn around. They did an excellent job on our stocks.

Dima:
Thanks, sounds like a good source. Depends on if I can connect with this local guy.

Chuck: Shouldn't anything other than adjusting the router bit up an 1/8", thats all Ed Shulin used to do. Showed me on the last one he turned for me while we were bsing.

Far as the inletting goes, I do have a take off stock that could be setup for that w/o destroying the stock. This will be for another 1917 Enfield action.
Had one all ready to finish the inletting and outside when I got sick last yr. Just laid it across the arm of a recliner. Last I saw of it was there. Can't be found now. $260 in the stock, $180 barrel, action ? $150+-, new Kiff reamer $120, turning the barrel: smith charge $200. Nearly a grand already. Now it's apparently amoung the many things stolen while I was laid up. Planned on it being a Cannon: .358U/M. Partly to test my ideas on recoil reduction. Re: Wt, length, fit, mercury, best pad on the market and some big hopes. Supposed to produce about 3200fps w/250gr in 26". Towesley built one a some yrs back he says gets an easy 3000fps in a 24" with medium charges. Am thinking of making a trip to Australia on a bull hunt in
2015 IF I can get these health problems dealth with and healed up.

Strange stuff happens they claim. have a lovely ex neighbor lady that comes around sometimes. Afternoon of the 10th while I was down for a short back rest someone came in the open back door and stole my wallet from the dining table. Made several quick purchases running up $400. One was Taco Bell for $54. Hell of a party huh? I just got a CD of the purchase being made there. Damned if it wasn't this lady and her dau. No question about it. At least Iv'e made the ID now. So that's a big step forward.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the info and suggestions.
I'm feeling much better the last few days too.

Default Need some opinions now

Ok, just phoned the local guy. He is doing stock turning, buried under now so it's six weeks. What I need to hear from you guys is what kinda price should I consider? Ed Shulin used to charge $45+$10UPS to ship 'em back.
This guy wants $180, comparing the two it shocked me.

Whats the market rates anyone know these days?

Thanks much.

George

I agree that might be a little much but if he has a classic pattern and can

put your old stock if for the inletting.

Not a lot of long distance shipping.

6 weeks ain't that long.

Maybe don't sound that bad.

Some of these stocks coming from the duplicators are almost ready to finish.

Some are not. Think Richards Microfit. Kenny
