Default Savage 25

Hello I would like to know if anyone here has had a savage 25 in 22 hornet reamed out to a .222 or .223 rem? I have 25 in .22 Hornet that shoots well, However the appeal of the .222 is keeping me up at night

I think you would be more likely to get more practical rifle if you chambered it in something like .221 fireball, or even 22 TCM or do a rebarrel to one of the small 17's. The bolt travel may not be long enough to eject an unfired round in .222 or .223, it may not even eject a fired round. Larry

I'm pretty sure, never handled one, but the 25 is a one piece receiver barrel combo.

I recall they have a barrel that is threaded and pinned, the barrel goes up into the receiver some as a very close fit before the threads start. I think there is a stud on the receiver that has a set screw or pin in the bottom of it. I could have been drinking when I looked at it however. Larry

I just remember what Kevin Weaver was saying about them and he said "they're one piece". I haven't handled one so it's all second hand.

They chamber the same rifle in 222 and 223 as well as .204 ruger. I was told by one gunsmith today that he re-chamber it to a 222 however the bolt has to be opened slightly.

True, bolt face will need opened. Although I wouldn't use the 25 as a donor, it's a rimfire action with a centerfire chamber.

Why not just sell it and buy one in .222?
fwiw: I spend more time wishing I'd been able to find a CZ than I do shooting my Savage "Glorified Rimfire" Model 25 .22 Hornet. Now, coincidentally, I'm selling mine cheap so I can buy that .222 CZ Lux I've found.

Found a thread but no pictures yet, the action is threaded and locked via a set screw in the front stock mounting lug.

I have said this before and will say it again ---- I love my CZ's but my Savage model 25 shoots better than my CZ's and that with no work on it at all. It is more than a glorified rimfire, and a guy could do a lot worse. I have thought about purchasing a mod 25 in 204 and rechambering to 20vt but have questions about making it a repeater with the correct magazine, etc. All that said, If I wanted one in 222, then I would sell what I have and just purchase one already chambered and set up in 222. They are not that expensive and you would probably come out money ahead to do it that way. Just my $0.02.
