Default 17 hornet, powder choices.

I have been playing with my .17 hornet CZ American for most of the winter,
little gun was a wash out, blowen primers, overpressure signs even at miminum.
H335 accuracy is not very good 1.5"-2" at 100M 25gr v-max.
H110 ok accuracy but very slow. 1" at 100m. 20gr v-max.
4227 is showing sum promise for the 20gr v-max, but at low charges, 3/4"

I have been able to locate VV120, reloader 7 and H4198, Kinda, wondering which powder is my best bet. ?

20gr v-max, 25gr v-max and 25g hp, I have on hand.
I also have a .17 fireball, I am reloading for at the momement, so 20gr for the hornet. 25gr for the fireball.
Can anyone point to data for reloader 7 or VV120, struggling a bit to find much.
I also have a savage in .17 hornet, finally got it repaired, and sighted in today. so will be loading for it too from now on.
Thanks in advance.

Accurate 2200 & 1680 have been receiving good reviews for 25 & 20 grain projectiles. H4198 does ok. H322 does well pushing a Hornady 1710 25-gr HP for me, in a CZ 527 American.

My personal favorite thus far has been Accurate 2200 with either Midsouth 20-gr varmint nightmares or the #1710 Hornady 25-gr HP. Have not yet located any Accurate 1680 personally.

I have a CZ Varmint. I use 2200 powder with 20 V Max. On windless days it is a 1/4" gun. It shoots as good as my Cooper17AH.

Hi,
I have been using VV120 in my 17 AH. Love it. Do you mind me asking where you have located it. I would love to have a couple more pounds

Safe shooting

Happy to tell you, but wont do you no good, I am in Canada, Alberta. Powder in prophert river firearms, trouble is, a little straight line on the 49 parallel. Bit the same for finding accurate powder up here.
thanks for info so far.

Doug what charge weight did you use for a min and Max ? with VV120, we don't have the bullet choices you have Hornady and Berger are aviable.
thanks so far.

Default Load data link

perhaps this may help?

Sorry to say Hodgdon has chose to eliminate distribution of N120 in the USA. Not discontinued just a conscious choice to not distribute here.

What is N120 selling for north of the border?

I believe Hodgdon distributes Hodgdon, Winchester and IMR powders inthe US. I think somebody else (Lapua maybe?) distributes the VV powders in the US.

1680 is usually common and works well in both the 22 hornet and 17 Hornet.

From What I have been able to gather, since 2007ish Hodgdon seems to have made an agreement with VihtaVuori to act as the US distributor.

Check out the VihtaVuori link in the lower portion of Hodgdon's web site in the link below.

https://www.hodgdon.com.

I started looking into this after reading through the Apr 4, 2008 at 9:18am post,
in the link below.
