If there's hardly any bearing surface above the case mouth you pretty much have no choice in using a collet puller, nothing to grab.

I've used a Forester bullet puller for years, also inertia type now and then.

When all is said and done, the bullet puller is a tool I try to avoid at all costs.

That last tool pictured looks expensive.

I will also try that wire stripper trick. I think that will wreck the bullets, but would be fast if salvaging bullets is not a large concern.

Harold:
Hammers are cheap at Midway now.
I have a 10"sq pc of 1 1/4" steel plate on my desk that I hammer on.
Keep it in reach, though I have to move junk off it at times.
Pulled three misfired 358's last night. Looks like I got real lucky with them.
Told about having a clog in the lil Dandy from some lint. These three got by it looks like.
Primers popped, no powder evidently as the bullets hadn't moved and came out with the
hammer on the second whack. I keep a range rod in the gun case just for such things and
stuck cases too so I wouldn't have been fouled up for long.

Good idea, first I've seen using a shell holder, or that new tool too. Whats the bore size of the end hole?
Thanks for sharing guys.

Also, if you have some of those plier type tools for installing & removing jags & brushes on your cleaning rods, they work well on 20 cal.

The wire strippers pull all bullets.

You do not need a straight shank to pull them - the teeth grip the bullet. They do wear, but still work - mine now, for 30 years.

Try it - I did and use nothing else for the last 30 years.

They make little nics - usually 3 of them - sometimes 4 depending on the teeth used - but - they do not hurt the accuracy.

Default puller

One of the funniest things I ever did was give a buddy one of those green RCBS hammers....for free! Being the cheap arse he is he bought 200 rounds of FMJ 223 gunshow ammo knowing he couldn't shoot it at our range(no FMJ allowed). Asked me about pulling the bullets and seating a HP. Told him what I had in my RCBS collet puller and all the collets, the nickel nose opted for the hammer. Called me back about a week later, started off with some rather profane comments, blisters on his hands, busted hammer and still 165 rounds to go.......

Once you get use to it, you'll barely leave a mark, it any.
Same experience here. Will never bust another inertia puller again.

Must make a difference on what they're beat against.
Mine are only hit on a flat steel plate and held straight.
I've had one busted and another guy was beating it
on an angle to the head. I've pulled hundreds and
never had a hammer break in anyway.
Some have had the face bell out like a chisel head does
but, I just file that off a bit and it's good as ever.

I have found fine powders will fly out of the caps at times,
I just put some strapping tape over that and it's cured.

One time I pulled 400 .223's that way in two or three sessions.
'nother time I pulled a bunch of .17's, 20gr. That got tedious
as there's not enough weight to make 'em move.

Where can one of those new tools be bought and how much?
Thanks
