In addition, the 541's came with match chambers, When chambered, the bullet would engrave the bullet, and some types of ammo were tough to extract if chambered. Also, the 541's had a better trigger mechanism (more adjustable), as I recall. I have two Rem Model 541S which have sporter barrels and a glossy BDL style stock. The older one has only one stock screw and the bolt does not have a captive firing pin, and it does peen the chamber if dry fired excessively. The newer Model 541S has two stock screws and a captive firing pin. Both like SV ammo but shoot really well with Mini-Mags and Win Power Points for HV ammo.

Seems like in younger days I lusted after a 541T. Was there such an animal or has my memory failed me?

Default Me too RareBear

While picking up a 648 at a LGS I spied a 541T on the used rack,it looked new.
I scratched that itch and bought it,unfortunately it had the wrong mag,but was able to get a couple of beautiful magazines from Mr Reed in Tennessee. It is like a scaled down Varmint Special which will always have a place in my heart.

Always thought about picking up one of those-581 or 541 and relining to 17HM2 or even HMR.

Checked the bolt face on my two 581's and one would accept a WMR and the other almost would.

I think I have a Redman liner out in the shop, maybe I should...

The actions are a bit short for the 22WMR or HMR, if I recall.

I think bolt stop can be adjusted. These use to be converted to centerfire. But sitting here thinking right now I can not remember how. A fellow I knew up in Powers OR use to convert them regular. He provided me notes on how to do it. I haven't seen those notes in years.

The most knowledgeable gunny guy in Powers OR would be friend and mentor Darrell Holland, the most skilled riflesmith in the state.

OT: Currently have a 541T w/box and papers, shoots lights out with WW Pwr Points or Mini-Mag HP's. Sold my 541S foolishly long ago, so the T model will stay.....for now.
