Default 204 ruger 35 gr bergers load help

Hi everyone I haven't shot any yet. I shot only 39 gr bking great groups. My gun is a TC venture 204 ruger 1@10 topped with a Nikon 6x18x40mm with target dot. My load is 25.5 gr RL10 neck size Winchester brass 39 gr bking and a rem 7 1/2 br.A 5 shot group you can cover with a dime. But the bullet isn't fur friendly. I fount out this is my first full season to hunt with. Buddys told me to goto 35 gr berger HP and h4895. Does anybody use this load? I am using on gray and red fox and bobcats. I have other powder on hand may work Better?

I bought the Berger Reloading Data book. I like Sierra book the best overall. Any help I can get I will take thanks Richard.

I use RL10X with the 35 grain Berger with excellent results, why not stay with it? As far as the Berger and fur, I bet you will be quite pleased!

I tried the 35gr Bergers in my 20BR but found the 32gr Nosler BTBT shot much better in it and they have thicker jackets than the BKings. 8208 powder was most accurate with CCI450's.

I like the RL10 in my 204 I didn't know the load data until I got the berger book. I have 10 pds of RL10 and 6 pd of H4895. If I don't use it i may trade it for RL10.
I have got other bullets 32 gr z max 40 gr nosler BT 39 gr bking
39 gr bking 40 gr v max and 40 gr rem acci tips and 35 gr Berger's. I have only shot 39 gr bking. Hi Ramos what gr do you use thanks Richard?

Like anything when you are able to do your part, the 35-grain Berger HP & w a solid well placed hit will put them down with authority. After all guys are experiencing stellar results with 25 & 30-gr HP's From 17 Remington & the 17 fireball. 35-gr Berger or even a 34-gr dog town will do the trick.

Sounds like you have done this enough to recognize stay away from the shoulder and it is hard to beat a double lung shot. Exception may be if you feel comfortable with a shot in the ear.

Yes sir the little 204 with a 39 gr bking I thought I had it off both shoulder I didn't just hit the other side. It blowed a hole big time. I always used a 22 250 and fox it made a hole bad then got a Sig AR 223 20 inch barrel 1@8 shooting 60 gr v max it done the same thing. That's why I bought a 204 I may look at a 17 rem or hornet just so I can buy another gun. I love the way the 204 shoots you can see where the bullet hits in the scope.

Seriously the 35-gr Berger has been the go to bullet for fur in 20-cal up until Berger no longer offering the finer closed point target bullet. With the target tip gone you may do just as well with the considerably less expensive 34-gr Midsouth Dogtowns.

With bullets currently available for 17 cal I may recomend Hornady 1710 25-gr HP Nagel 25 or 30-gr offerings or Kindler Golds.

Should you opt to give a 17 cal a try I would again opt for a HP bullet over any plastic tip when fur is a concern. Personally I have worked with the Hornet and 17 fireball and have been overwhelmingly pleased with each to say the least. If your shooting often exceeds 150 yards I would lean to the 17 fireball or 17 Remington.

Most everything you like about the 204 Ruger is generally there with the 17's X two. In my opinion the biggest draw back for the 17 hornet is the rimed case. For me accuracy and knock down power are nothing to sneeze at when looking at the 17 Hornet. Did I mention the Hornady 1710 25-gr HP for fur?

Default RL10X Load

Richard,
I meant to look up my load for the Bergers last night, of course I forgot to check my notes. Hate to go from memory but, I believe I settled on 24.7 grains in a Cooper Model 21. Will confirm and let you know. I have some Bergers from their last production run (dang near ran out, eek) and have been perfectly happy with the results. Even on Badger and I think they die harder than our coyotes. Never have tried the Dog Town bullet so I am no help there.

Don't know why Berger decided to go the big HP openings, it must have been a manufacturing issue because I have never seen anyone that likes the large HP's. This is a picture of a Nagle 30gr out of a 17-204 at 100 yards, started out at about 4,100fps. Think if it were going to splash on something it would do it on this. The Nosler BTBT 32gr at 4,300 fps look the same, just a slightly larger hole. Larry
