Default All around varmint and coyote caliber?

If you were to have one rifle (and one caliber) for an all around varmint and coyote rifle, what would it be? .223 Rem.? .20 Tactical? .22-250? Inquiring minds want to know. And please elaborate on bullets, barrel contour and length.

Thank you,

Jordan

220 Swift is my first choice and I have been shooting one since 1978. Currently shoot two bullets, the Sierra 55 gr HPBT (1390) and the Barnes 36 gr Varmint Grenade.
My CDS dial is set up for the 55 gr and I did that because we get wind up here in the winter and the 36 gr bullet cannot buck it very well at any kind of distance.
My current Swift is a Remington 700 VSSF (original and first version of the VSSF) with a 26 inch barrel and 1:14 twist.
Absolutely love this rifle and caliber. Now, having said that, I also use the following for coyotes:
222 Remington in a Remington 722
17 Remington in a Remington 700 BDL
22 Magnum in a H&K 300
223 in a Bushmaster Varmint Special

Each of them have their place but 9 out of 10 times when I go chasing coyotes it is the Swift I grab for when I open the safe.

Default Varmint cartridge

I have lots of 17s, 20s and 22 centerfires. If I could have only one for all varmints and coyotes, it would either be a 223 or 204 Ruger, probably the 223, because of brass availability.
I sure do like the 220s for coyotes, but its a bit much for a 300+ round day in a PD town.

Jordan,

if you ask the same question your going to get the same answers. Was the other thread you started not to your satisfaction?

It is difficult to beat 223 for variety of commercially available firearms, bullets, and even ammunition if you don't reload.
