Default 1885 lw.

Thinking of rebarreling my Browning 1885 LW 243 to 25-45 Sharps.
Can anyone tell me if the extractors for these are cartridge case diameter specific?
Thanks,Ken.

The 25-45 Sharps has a .378" case head diameter, while the 243 is .473", so you will need to do some type of modification to or change out the extractor/ejector so it fits the case rim.

Default 1885 lw.

As mentioned you are going from a 308/30-06 case down too a 223/5.56 case. so you are going to have to work the face/extracter over to work. Bill k

Think that’s what i was looking for, Old Hawkeye. Been so impressed with the performance of my 25-45 bolt gun i thought I’d change the low wall to same cal.
I mailed Brownells Who replied they didn’t have the part and, couldnt source one.
Midway USA list 2 different part # Browning 1885 extractors for 223. One costs $32, the other $52! I can’t differentiate between them. Except for price.
Thanks for all answers,Ken.
Ps. Found the difference, beside cost. $32 gets an extractor for an original 1885, $52 gets one for a copy.
