6x45 with heavy bullets
Has anyone played with the 108’s or 110’s in a 6x45? I have a 22inch 1in8 twist on Remington action that I want to shoot suppressed with some heavies.
TIA for any help. John |

check the snipers hide forum. many run the 80-105's over there but they require throating to really realize the potential.

As squirrel_slayer mentions, the OAL can be problematic with 100 gr bullets or heavier. 100 grainers will have the end of the case neck forward (on the ogive) of the bullet's shank when seated to SAAMI OAL. Changing the throat will correct that, but then they probably won't fit in the magazine. There are better cartridges for suppressed sub-sonic loads, IMHO.

SAAMI 6x45 is AR mag length, your powder choices and performance take a leap in a bolt action (2.5"+) OAL.

Groc is insightful! If your REM is a bolt-action, try the heavier bullets, even with normally questionable seating depths.
My CZ 6TCU shoots most all heavy bullets I have tried, very accurately, in spite of required seating depth. That said, I follow the chamber dimensions, not the magazine's, since i shoot exclusively single-shot. The possible limitations may be insignificant, to consider changing chamber dimensions....I think you will be impressed with the rifle as you have it set up, now. You can modify the chamber, at anytime if needed. I would just let your existing chamber show you its potential, or not. Bill

My deal is varminting, started out with an AR mag bolt action plain 6x45, then ended up with a 6TCU with an .045" FB and single stack AICS style poly mags which feeds 100% with the AI style case, which is problematic in double stack mags most of the time.
Even with 58vmax the 2.260" OAL restriction holds you back a bit, but it works fine, you just have more choices and adjustments available with a full length mag. Performance from a SAAMI 6x45 can be an eye opener, performance from the AI or TCU and a full length mag or single shot can be shocking. Plus I don't have a stroke if I lose a case unlike my 6BR. |

What speeds are possible with heavies seated way out?

Haven't looked it up but I bet 6x45 with 105's ain't much different than a 308 pushing 180SMK at the same pressure, subsonic past 900 yds and similar drop/drift within a few %. |

a 105 6mm @ 2600 ft/sec is almost a ballistic match to the tried and true 175 smk .308 load. with the 6mm getting a slight nod in the wind and the .308 obviously greater energy. thats with the 105's of yesteryear. with the new ultra low drag bullets like the nosler rdf and berger hybrids those numbers begin to favor the 6mm. all with less powder and recoil. granted you could counter with a 185 juggernaut in .308 but for a fun low recoil gun I feel the 6mm is s great place to start.
Another individual and I plan to do a wildcat with .223 brass. essentially a 6x45ai but with a 30' shoulder and the shoulder blown forward a hair more. It will make for a great first deer cartridge for my kids as well as an affordable long range cartridge to bring them up on and for myself when I don't feel like shooting a heavier recoiling gun. |

Are you wanting to shoot subsonic with suppressor, or, just using the can to quieten things down a little? Most replies so far seem to be for supersonic? I’m using a 25-45 and though it doesn’t have the bullet choice of 6mm it is very impressive in a 24” bolt gun. 3000+ fps with 90 grain GKs and RL7. Ken.
