Default .20 w 50gr Bergers

Box says 7 tw yet I've read of some guys posting 9tw for their 55s doing well, and some, not so well. I thought snagging g some 50s may be a winner in my 9tw 20BR.
Is there that much difference in design?

Default I have shot the 50s

In my 12 twist 20 BR at the VHA jamboree 500 yard balloons and hit them, never would have even thought they would work but sometimes you just gotta try.
The 55s are quite a bit longer and depending on your variables a 9 twist or faster is needed for the 55s.My 20 Dasher at 6202 elevation works well with my 9 twist and the Berger 55.Not sure if you will find many 20 caliber 50 Berger’s anymore, but if you do they will work well in the 20 BR.I have shot the 50s in my 9 twist Dasher to 4200fps with exceptional accuracy.

A 9 twist will work just fine in a fast 20 cal.
My bet is in a 7 after a little throat wear you will start tearing bullets apart.

My 20BR 10.0" twist shoots the 50LTB at 3950fps..........just fine.

I'm at 982' elevation.....BTW.

Hope this helps.

Great news Kev. My 9tw 20BR ought to handle them. I have over 600 of the 50s so it would be worth working a load up for some LR scavengers. I'm long on the Wolf small mags, hope those will digest well. A roll of the dice for sure.

I shoot the 50gr BERGERS in my 20 PPC with an 8.5 twist PAC NOR barrel. It is one of my MOST accurate rifles I own. It puts such a HARD hit on a prairie dog is unbelievable.

The key to this 50gr Berger or 55gr Berger is to keep the bullet revolutions under 295-300000 revolutions per minute for accuracy and to keep the bullet together !! I shoot my 20 PPC at 3475 FPS, nothing super fast, but accurate and HARD hitting with the 50gr Bergers.

I use 20BR with 50 gr Bergers, 1 in 9 Bartlien, shoots .2 - .3 with match or varmint versions. around 3500 fps using a case full of N150 and BR4 or Fed 205.

Not tried it with Berger 55s, it also shoots 39 SBKs into about .4 - .5.

Bullets are sorted by weight.
