I would go with a 1-14" twist as that is more than adequate with 50 grain and lighter bullets.
More importantly find a reamer that is cuts a head diameter close to the brass you will be using to avoid the Hornet bulge. Hornet brass isn't the most robust and limiting the deformation will reduce brass cracking near the case head. Love to see pictures when your done. If for some reason you would like to go with a K-hornet chamber, I have a reamer you can borrow. John |

Turn around was faster than I thought. I'm re-using my "sporter" stock for the time being. I'll consider getting a marksman stock to work on over the winter.
New school. Or old school. Also, it's now a K-Hornet Last edited by Tackdriver; 07-08-2019 at 03:28 AM. |

I bought a new Ruger 77/22 Hornet. After about 20 rounds, I had it K'ed. Love the little Hornet. I bed the action and floated the barrel. Also put a reduced trigger spring in it and shimmed the bolt. Shoots very good.

Pick what brass you are going to use and have it reamed for that. I would go 1-12 or 1-14. I never really understood the value of a Hornet until I aged a little, but now if the wind is not blowing it's the first gun out. 40 Vmax here over the bowling ball shaped 35's. you will have a sweet rifle when you get done.

Very nice. Can't wait to see it with a Marksman stock on it. For it's worth, both my M70 Target, the M52C and the M52D have two Unertl scope blocks on the barrel, in addition to the block near the muzzle for peeps, and the scope does not mount on the receiver. The bolts will cycle with the Unertl on.

Brief update.
Went to the range to try it out and fireform some brass. Shot 5 PPU Hornet rounds, all split necks. Shot 4 Hornady 45 SP Match rounds, 2 split necks. Then I shot 19 into the group below. 18 formed perfectly, the one outlier split the case almost all the way to the base and landed far right. So that's 18 rounds using an old 8X weaver into a group measuring 1.034" out-to-out. |

Mine split cases when fire forming. I reduced my loads and the splitting stopped considerately. I still get one now and then but nothing like I did at first. I really enjoy shooting it but it doesn't get shot as much as it should. I need to work on that!
