Great pic's (fellow) Kiwi. Looks like a great part of the world. I trust you had a chance to do a spot of shooting. Those never ending plains are a lot! different from good old NZ

While in Edmonton I had to visit Cabelas, it's always nice looking round a shop that stocks hunting and shooting items and comparing them to New Zealand.
Since I do a bit of reloading it's always good looking at the equipment and supplies...…….one thing I saw that I wouldn't mind bringing home was a safe, just wouldn't fit in the luggage I liked the discount, just found they are "prohibited here in NZ and of course a look at the trophy's that Cabelas and others display. |

From Edmonton it was southwest bound and after a few hours drive we arrived in Jasper.
After checking in we took a walk around town, one thing I noticed in Canada the trains are pretty long, couldn't see the far end of this line of wagons. Anybody that has been to Jasper would have seen this engine on display |

Just look at all those poor truck drivers going
without a load! That's the nasty part about boxes on trains. Don't quit now mate, gotta see more.

You're right there George. Plenty of truck loads going to the coast but few coming back out and most don't pay the trucker very well.

GreyWolf:
I've talked to some more recent truckers the last few years. Amazing, right now, CRST pays: 25 cents a mile SPLIT between two drivers!! Way back in '73-76 when I drove long haul, heavy half (western states) Running empty (deadheading) I was paid 55 cents running alone. Some loads, like a dozer, 12' dia x 130' long "vessel" paid a couple bucks a mile. I never hauled and doubt I would have done so, one of those chinaman's junk boxes. A fact of life: "everything we eat, buy, use is or has been hauled by truck at one point or another. Keep that in mind.

Here is some details about the engine in the previous post, the drive wheels are taller than me We carried on our walk around town and booked a wildlife tour, since we had a bit of time to fill in before the tour left we didn't stop in here But we did stop in and get an icecream, it was yummy, you could pick what flavours you wanted and there were a lot to choose from Now looking at that icecream made my mouth water, the top flavour was coffee and chocolate chip (from memory)......lol Last edited by Kiwishooter; 09-15-2019 at 06:56 AM. |

On our wildlife tour we stopped to see some coyote pups, I didn't get a photo of them but we did watch them playing.
Next chance encounter was a black bear that was wandering along having a feed Then this girl, she wasn't sure if she should hang around or take off We stopped off to see if a Cow Moose and it's calf were back where they had been seen a few days earlier...……...all we saw was trees and water Another black bear, only a different colour |

We carried on along Maligne Lake Rd till we reached Maligne Lake
There were a few out rowing on the lake Beautiful isn't it After turning around at Maligne Lake we headed back toward Jasper, stopping at a rest stop, where we saw this fellow, we also saw a bald eagle (photos were a bit fuzzy) and a couple of squirrels, but no pika. |
