Default Want to build a 17 FB again

I have a bunch of Berger 25gr Match bullets so that is the reason I want a small 17 again.

Should I buy a CZ527 17 Hornet and rechamber the factory barrel, and open up the bolt face, adjust the extractor? This could be a nice light sporter.

or

Would I be better off getting a CZ527 in 17 Rem and setback and rechamber?

I also have a Howa mini in 223, that could be rebarreled. But not sure how well it would feed.

I already have a couple 20 VT's that I love.

I could also go with a 17-222.

I'd buy a Howa mini-action and barrel it up with a Douglas or Lothar Walter 9 twist and then throw an MDT chassis stock on it.

With the CZ 527 being a CRF action, I'm not sure you can just open the bolt face up to accommodate the different size brass.

A 17-222 would be a sweet little gun for those 25 grainers and would feed smooth as silk through any action. A couple hundred pieces of Lapua 222 brass necked down to .17 cal would easily last through a barrel or two.

Yes you can, I had a Hornet opened up, and just coincidentally, made into a 17-222, worked well.

If you get a 17 Rem and rechambeer, how will it go feeding the shorter 17 FB rounds, a new magazine perhaps ??

CZ made the 221 FB in the 527. You only need the correct magazine which is still available from CZ

Have a 17-222 and just love it. My cousin has a Cooper 17FB that I get to shoot quite often is a also great. Either way I can't see how you can loose.

Another option for a mini action is the Mossberg MVP 5.56. Might be mini-ee-er than the Howa. 1" diameter action, set up for AR mags and 2.260" cartridge max OAL.

My 17FB is a MVP varminter with a 1" straight 22" 3 groove 9 twist SS barrel, PTG nut and lug, and a Jard 12 oz. drop in trigger. 17FB AR mag repeater, feeds fine.

Drawbacks to this platform is the lack of repair parts from sources other than Mossberg. There are few aftermarket parts such as magwells, triggerguards, triggers, stocks, its a bit of an orphan. You are stuck with .378" bolt face, will need to build an assembly jig or pin the recoil lug for reassembly whether you choose to keep the barrel nut or not.

These things were 7 lb so building a lighter repeater is very possible.

What about just finding a used Cooper Fireball? By the time you have the work done, the price difference might not be a lot.

Products that I am looking for but can't seem to find no matter how hard I look:
Leopold Scopes, Forester reloading equipment and Victorianox knives.

I video recorded all of my Highpower Rifle matches. Pretty soon I am going to watch them all in reverse order so that I can watch those F Class guys GO HOME and leave us alone so that we can shoot Highpower Rifle.

Default I bought a LVSF in 221

Seems like a long time ago for a similar project, still haven’t shot the 221 yet.
If it’s a good shooter I may do something else
I really like my 17-222 Sako L461 with 25s makes a great coyote gun.Damn near a 17 Rem power wise though.
