Default 45ACP rifle barrel.....

"Rebarreled a couple a few weeks ago to 357 mag and to 45acp just to try that out. As much as I like the rimfire No.1's, I have to admit the 45acp is very mild in a 27" barrel; kinda like a 22 rimfire but the holes in the target are easier for me to see..."

I did the same thing using an inexpensive Green MTN blank 25" long full diameter fitted to my Ruger 77 MII bolt rifle. Still fairly loud so I cut it back to 17". Fun and games with a lathe.

There is (was?) a Browning (Miroku) 1885 in 30/30 28" octagon available nearby... been anguishing over it. I like a 30/30, and never have owned an 1885. Had a Browning 78 in 25/06 years ago, 28" octagon light barreland excellent accuracy.

I did my 45acp No.1 with a straight taper Shilen blank. Twas a lot cheaper than buying a contoured blank, and wanted to learn how to do the complex taper at the breech. I contoured it to a #4 in time. Lots of work, a good experience, but think it will have to be something pretty special to do that again, did I say a lot of time for me at the old lathe?

My friends talked about pistol cases in a rifle, so I tried it with a couple. I like the longer barrels, usually are a bit milder in report to me. Talked with one guy that thought a suppressor would be something to consider, but seems like a lot of hassle getting one.

I have never seen a Pendelton Dekicker on anything but a Weatherby, but perhaps that could change someday, just to get the experience. Really has nothing to do with being practical, just experiencing what you have read about all your life; and finally getting to do it.

That is one of the beautiful things about the No.1, it can be anything you want fairly easily. Maybe 30 Luger? Looking at the Jard triggers now, kinda gets rid of the multi-link affair.

The B78 is a lovely rifle, feels solid and smooth; moreso than the No.1. The curve of the guard banged my hand so much I got rid of mine, kinda regret that now, twas a pretty, well made rifle.

Alan if you buy a 78 you still won't have a 1885.internals are completely different. I do like my pair a 22-250 and a 7mm mag. by far the 22-250 is the most pleasant to shoot. just buy the 30-30 if you do not like it you can sell it to me at a discount.

ML, good to hear. I knew my 218 Bee shot good with no bedding but after seeing this thread brought back to life it had me wondering about a certain 17 Killer Bee. I can’t remember if I’ve ever taken the forearm off (I really need to get out and shoot it some more!

Is there a Browning, or other modern alternative that does have 1885 internals? Is it bad to not have 1885 internals and end up with a B78? I have a few No. 1s and have been considering branching out to something in a Low Wall/High Wall.

Leopold Scopes, Forester reloading equipment and Victorianox knives.

I video recorded all of my Highpower Rifle matches. Pretty soon I am going to watch them all in reverse order so that I can watch those F Class guys GO HOME and leave us alone so that we can shoot Highpower Rifle.

Originally I sent the 'smith a pair of scope blocks that came off a Ruger#1V varmint model. He said the blocks were a poor fit on my barrel profile & recommended that I use the "rib" which he had in his parts drawer. It fit perfect. I must admit though, I have no love for Ruger rings but I haven't bothered to look for alternatives. I'm sure someone out there makes some(?)
