358 Win barrel,... who's?
I've waited too long,...time to build the .358 Win I promised I would after selling my factory Ruger 77R in 358 a good while ago.
I've never purchased a Douglas but hear they are excellent barrels. What and who say you?? Small caliber??,...well,.. it's smaller than a 45,..... : ) |

I think Douglas is a good barrel, no complaints here.
Most of my rifles wear Shilen barrels, as are the barrel blanks under the living room couch. Moderate price in the secondary market, good product in stainless or CM. I just purchased a 358 Shilen CM #3 for a 38 special No.1. 358 winchester is a fine round, hoping to do an 88 one of these days. |

In all honesty I would opt for a McGowen over Douglas. McGowan has been putting out some seriously good barrels for cheap coin these days. They're button rifled and smooth the Hawkeye has been down the last five I've had and they are on the same finish level as my PacNor.

I had a Douglas on my sako L 579, it shot ok. But as this was going to be my last build I decided to go for a Pac Nor match stainless fluted. I also got a McMilan stock. Its a beautiful and accurate rifle, taken a number of sambar deer with it. I just stick with 200grn hornady's and some old 200grn win silver tips a friend picked up for me.
I'll post a photo of in a few days, got to go and get another sambar, later Johno |

I've got 35cal barrels in PacNor, Sprinter, Green Mountain, TSE, plus Rem factory. They all shoot as well as needed for big game hunting. Some are varmint good though.
Cheers... Con |
