17-222 anybody using 20gr Noslers?
I just got an old 17-222 and all the load data I can find is for 25gr hp bullets. I know I can use that for a starting point. I really did not find much data anyhow.
I was wondering if anybody has any experience with the 17-222 and can suggest load data I could work up to. Thanks Last edited by ssv1761982; 01-07-2014 at 08:03 PM. |

17-222 load data
Some of my starting loads are:
20 grain bullet with 22.0 grains of Varget 20 grain bullet with 21.0 grains of IMR 8208XBR 20 grain bullet with 20.0 grains of AA 2015 BR 20 grain bullet with 20.5 grains of H 335 25 grain bullet with 21.0 grains of H 4895 25 grain bullet with 20.0 grains of H 335 25 grain bullet with 20.0 grains of IMR 8208XBR 25 grain bullet with 21.0 grains of Varget 25 grain bullet with 19.0 grains of AA 2015 BR 30 grain bullet with 20.5 grains of H 4895 As always, start low and work up slowly watching for pressure signs. A chronograph is very useful for load development with wildcats: when you start seeing only small velocity increases with each powder increase you are nearing maximum loads.

Gary that's great data my old Hornady Vol. II only has 25 Gr bullet data. I finally have everything to put this 17-222 project together. I'm waiting for my gunsmith to heal he just had surgery.

17-222 loads
You need to know that these are nobody's recommended loads. I just started low and have increased most of them going slowly. Certainly no pressure data but no primers were harmed in my rifle (CZ 527 with 9 twist Lilja barrel)!!
I have only begun to work up loads for my 17-222.
