Best lube for core swage?
I have got a lot of core swaging to do for some 50 BMG match bullets, Got a match coming up at end of the month. I'm curious what you all consider to be the best lube for bleeding cores for utmost in consistent weight cores and ease of clean up afterwards?
I will spend a little time researching past threads soon. I have read of those using motor oil, basic swage lube (castor oil and lanolin), and even Dawn dish soap? Dawn would be interesting and certainly easy to clean up afterwards. Thanks Brian |

I've been using RCBS Case Lube II, per Leo Saubier's comments here. So far, no issues and it cleans with detergent and hot water.

Cleaning cores
I wash in a product called "Grease Off". I then boil in water with Calgon dish washer powder. Air dry and place in jackets.

I use 2oz of ATF to one quart MEK. I take my cores outside and place them in a stainless sieve and pour the MEK solution over the cores then pore the solution back into the container. In just a few minutes the cores are dry except for the small amount of ATF left behind. I clean by pouring MEK or Lacquer thinner over the cores, swish around a bit then pour the MEK back into the can. The next step is just habit and probably not necessary but I wash with hot tap water and dish soap, rinse hot and let dry between towels and seat.

I haven't done any 50 cal, but for .224 cal I apply a very light coat of silicon from a rag that I spray. A swirl in acetone & then air dry seem to do the trick afterwords.
