I loaded some 20vmax in my 17AH with trailboss. Can't remember the exact charge, but it was like a 17MachII. Shot some snowshoe hares with them. Pinhole entrance, no exit, and dead bunnies.

I was fireforming .17AH with a case full of TrailBoss, I think 3.3gr. with 25g.r Hornady HP's.
The vel was 1,785fps and 1/4" to 3/8" at 50 yards. They didn't quite fill the cases out perfectly in the shoulders, but never lost one doing it.

Did you notice whether your point of impact varied much compared to your full power loads?

Did you have to use a different sight in with your reduced power loads?

Its been way to long for me to remember correctly. That was back in 2009ish. I would imagine with that much speed difference it would require different sight settings.

I have done it in a 22 Hornet, not a 17. For the 22 Hornet, there is about a 1 inch lower POI.

Thanks Tinman. I have 17 and 22 Hornets and I am trying to do it in both.

I have also used AA2200 and a 50gr Blitz SP in the 22 Hornet, and it gave a duller report and was about 2100fps for velocity. Near perfect match to a 22WMR. If you have a mildot type scope reticle on that rifle, you may not need to change scope setting for the load, just use another mildot for aiming point.
