Neck sizing for 3 rifles?
Full disclosure: Long time reloader, newbie wildcatter (20T), newish accuracy nerd
I have 3 223 chambered rifles that I use multiples of for prairie dogs. I have been full length sizing them and I found a load that all three shoot well enough in so I don't have to segregate loads for each rifle. I have measured the headspace with a Hornady gauge (for what it's worth) and got 1.457, 1.46, 1.459 for the 3 rifles. My loaded ammo is 1.45-ish. Is the variation in the 3 rifles small enough to neck size to prolong brass life? Am I bumping the headspace back too much to begin with? I am ok with FL sizing if necessary. thanks!! |

Neck sizing for 3 rifles ?
I like to just neck size anytime I can do so and still get the results and accuracy.
I think you will just have to try it in your three rifles, with the ammo/load you are finding that is working well and see if they like it that way also. Bill K |

All bolt guns? Are you trying to keep the brass separate between the 3 rifles? I assume no, but I think I would try and keep them organized for the 3 different guns. Try it like Bill said is the only way to see if you will have backed out primers or stretched cases, but if you can I would keep each gun's ammo / brass organized per gun. If they are bolt guns, it shouldn't be hard to do. |

The accepted bump is .002, so you are pushing them kind of far right now. If you set it up on your shortest chamber to just be snug, then you are only introducing a .003" stretch for your longest chamber.
