218 Bee or 22 Rem Jet on a BOLT action?
I was just browsing some case drawings and noticed that the 218 Bee rim diameter is .408" which is close to a SPC case of .422", and also the 22 Rem Jet is .439" which is close to a PPC case of .440". And I could easily get both of those bolt heads for a Savage action. The only thing I'd be curious is if the RIM thickness of the 218 and 22 Rem Jet (0.065") would be too thick for a standard extractor (0.045") to grab and eject?
Besides the blatant stupidity of chambering a modern rifle for these two rounds, would there be any reason this wouldn't work? I've got a spare Savage action laying around and single feeding wouldn't be a problem. |

Years ago Kimber of Oregon chambered their 82 action in 218 Bee, I shot one and it was great.

I'd want to make sure you can get brass for either of these before deciding on which route to go.

Tac---Rim thickness is a concern. I made my 218 on a CZ 22 Hornet with bolt face opened. The Hornet and Bee rim is the same plus the Hornet extractor is smaller than the 223 family extractor and snaps over better. I had an extra CZ action in 7.62 x 39 action. The Jet case fits great and there's plenty of room under the extractor lip. I had a couple 100 old Rem cases for the 53 but got Privi for the rifle. At one time it was cheap but unavailable for nearly a year.

I was able to verify that a 22 Rem Jet would fit the Grendel bolt of a Howa Mini, but a 218 Bee is too loose.
Granted 22 Rem Jet is currently unavailable, but its still a lot cheaper than 218 Bee ammo an brass. |

From what little I have seen, the 218 Bee, 25-20, 32-20 brass has been the hardest to come by (I load and shoot for all three on a pretty regular basis and also have wildcats off of them). So at the moment this wouldn’t be in the running for anything new
I also load and shoot it 22 Jet. I like this one a lot I wouldn't want to be without it… that’s sad I’m not sure I would go after building one either With being a little uncertain about the future and how available brass will be for some of the stuff, i’d either stick to something based off the 223/5.56 brass OR if I fell that I could come up with enough 357 max and or 360 DW brass, I would simply build a rimmed 22 TCM or 221 fireball to save a little money not having to buy custom dies

FYI I personally believe if you went to Starline’s website and ordered 1000 pieces of 357 max brass they would be delivered to your front doorstep within the next week even though it says back ordered

There's also the 224-32 FA based on the 327 Federal Magnum. That should fit a standard .378" bolt face, and you can get the dies from Freedom Arms.
