Default 17 fireball

Would a head shot on a deer at 100 yds with a .17 Fireball 25 grain bullet work?

Yes, but the area right behind the neck (spine/ skull) is a better option. Two years ago for cull tages we used the 17FB and 300 Whisper on deer. Adam

I'm sure it would but wouldn't condone it. Most state's regs are at least 22 Cal and up. Check your local regs to be sure.

Default 17fb for deer

Hog,
To answer your question, yes, the fb is very effective on deer with a 25 gr bullet. Especially shooting from a blind at about 95 yards. Now to clarify. Texas allows any centerfire to be used. Deer here are fairly small, around 125 dressed on the low end, and 155 dressed on the big end. Head shots are the name of the game. An accurate rifle helps, but confidence and patience are good too along with ability.

As Darrel said yes... Head shots, brain or base of skull drops them in their tracks. My state does allow any centerfire. Stay under 100 yrds and place that shot, it will do the trick. Bill K

Default 17 Fireball On Deer

This question presents a problem. If everything goes right, the deer goes down. That depends on the shooter's ascertainment that none of the variables are varying when the pin hits the primer, and lacking one of those stars being in perfect alignment, is content to forego the shot.

Will a 17 Fireball fill the tag? My mobile slaughter man uses a .22 rimfire magnum. His careful shot placement usually drops a half a ton of beef so hard they will bounce. For those times when an uncooperative critter just blinks and heads for the highway, he carries a .30-30 as a backup.

Not knowing the shooter, if I were the deer I would ask you to use something just as fast and a tad bigger. Or be very, very careful, and willing to skip the shot if things aren't exactly right. I've pursued and trailed too many near perfect hits.
