Default how much bullet down in case is to much?

Guy"s i need some help here working on a used 223 AI ( no reamer print just some fired brass and some loaded) fired brass ave.1.755 i checked chamber length with the sinclair chamber length guage that is 1.770 a 80gr hornady touches lands at 2.933 with compartor nut (it measures .960 across the flats) that equals 1.973 the OAL is 2.478 the bullet measures 1.155 so by my figures of 2.478 oal - 1.755=.723 bullet length 1.155-.723=.432 is what i figure is down in the case the boat tail is .180 so i have .252 bearing surface in the case. the neck measures .200 so i have .052 bearing surface down in the case. i shot some this way and i think i need to try seating deeper for some accuracy ( not shooting to good touching lands) SO THE QUESTION IS CAN YOU HAVE TO MUCH BULLET IN THE CASE?
thanks
kerry
p.s. i hope this makes sense i sometimes confuse myself!

I imagine like anyting else if you go to some extreme you will probalby pay a price for it. Other than using up case capacity I'm not sure what the issue could be unless the pressure tries to fold the bullet over or form it to the sholder of the case. Larry

From my limited understanding, going beyond the neck with the base of the bullet will cause accuracy to suffer but that is it. Now how much truth there is to this I don't know.

On most anything I load for.
I make sure some of the full dia of the bullet is still above the mouth of the
case regardless of how far in it goes. IF it's below the shoulder it takes up some powder space but, usually I don't fill 'em full either so that don't seem to matter. I also NEVER EVER load to the max on anything either. That's seems to leave some space above the powder.

Sounds like you're on the way to getting it figured out. Good luck and have fun.
By the way, what powder and charge are you using?

What is your barrel twist? 80gr needs 7 twist in most rifles.
