Default Cooper 17 rem to 20 vt

Guys I am taking my Cooper M21 17 rem and going to convert to 20vt. Do you see any potential issues with this and does anyone out there have a good Smith that would do this? I have a good barrel in a 3 groove 1:11 twist which I would like to install. Or I am just going to send it back up to Montana and have them do it right at Cooper.
Do you have any other suggestions in regards to which caliber to go to in a 20 cal. I currently have one VT in a M38, I am just not a big fan of the 17 and its really just another mouth to feed so to speak!

As you already have a 20 VT, you might want to consider a 20 Practical. Your Model 21 will run it perfectly without any issues & it will complement your VT nicely. Cheap brass & dies, easy forming & no fireforming & performance on par with a 204 Ruger with less powder, less heat, good barrel life. Your 3 groove 11 twist is ideal for it.

I have thought about this, all I would need is a bushing (230ish) for my die to neck the 223 brass down and no fireforming like the tac...

It sure would help matters if you listed your location.
That way the rest of us could relate to 'smith's nearer you.
Something to consider.
Thanks,

Contact Cooper and see what they would charge for a barrel change, you may be surprised at how reasonable it is compared to an "after market" smith.

Thanks,

My one and only dealings with Cooper a few yrs ago was nearly a year long wait. But, it was a third or fourth owner rifle that had been shortened and rechambered so they really didn't "owe" me any consideration at all. They converted it to single shot: M 38 clip feeder that wouldn't feed much of the time since new I learned later.
I also fired ten rounds and set bullets in the cases so they'd have a good way to reset the barrel if they pulled it. Apparently they did, and didn't use my dummies either. Nothing would chamber once I got it back. Had Kevin Weaver look it over, ended up recutting the chamber with the original reamer til they fit right. I haven't been able to get out with it since. I have fired maybe ten thru it in the shop though and it all works fine so far. I have a bullet trap I welded up that will hold anything I shoot into it (inc .375H&H) man it's LOUD though!

Load yourself up some 25gr Hornady vmax to about 4100fps.

That load will hang right with a 22-250 shooting 55gr Blitzking .271 BC right out to 500 yd, windage and drop only. The 22-250 wins the energy race.
At 500 the 17 is just a little over 200 if I remember right.
Then compare that to your little 20 vt.

It won't be far behind your medium size 20s either.

I am trying to save you some dough here. Kenny
This BC thing is a little hard to grasp.
