I am not sure about the .20-250, but RL16 is known to make a carbon ring right past the throat in the 6mmCM. It is a fantastic powder in the CM. Just something to keep on top of.

Default RL16 with 55's failed

First time out with the recent 20-250Ackley build.
Focused on RL16 with the Berger 55's
Failed to obtain the expected 3700 speeds and ES/SD dropped as the powder increments went up.
35.0 = 3352
36.0 = 3471
37.0 = 3531
The case capacity using RL16 was 70-75%
I'll try a slower powder TO increase case capacity TO GET more velocity

I don't have RL26
But have H4350 N550

To bad you don't have any RL26 I'd bet that would get you the best velocity.

Unless I am mistaken, powders like 4895, CFE223 and some others all reach into the 3800 mark.
Check Hornaday's loading site, for some.

Good idea for a 22-250 but not so much for a 20-250.

I would think that with a start load lower than in the 22-250, you could find a very good load, in the 3800 range, for the 20-250.

The 20-250 is a bit of a different animal than the 22-250 and with the 55's tends to favor powders a little more on the slower side. I shoot the Berger 55's in my 20-250 and have a really accurate load with RL16 that launches them 3650. I'm probably giving up 100-150fps to what RL26 could do but it shoots so well with my current load I haven't messed with it much.

Even in a 22-250 or 220Swift you're using upper end book loads to get 55's up to 3800.

I'm betting with RL15 or perhaps the new 15.5 he would find the speed and accuracy he wants.

I use IMR 4064 with the Sierra 55 gr BTHP and I am chronographing 3867 fps and that is on the lighter side not pushing it in my 220 Swift.

You're not referring using 4064 in a 20-250 ? are you?
