Thumbs up Nice stuff, Doug!!

My 20BR has a Searcy(Hall clone) action, 24" K&P 10" twist barrel, Jewell trigger, McMillan stock, and 8.5-25xAO Lewy.

During sighting-in, I pushed the 40VMax to 4240fps.....AND the bolt still opened with only one finger......SPOOKY!!!
So.....even though I used Lapua cases.....I "pulled" the velocity back to 4150fps. Safer.....at least in my mind.

BTW.....she does 3950fps with the Berger 50LTB.

Piecing together a new rifle build. I swore no more wildcats, we know how that goes.
After a short talk with Todd K last month and getting back issues and an up to date Terrific Twenties, I am having a hard time not getting/building a 20BR.
I have little to no desire to run 40’s in it. I was thinking 50+ grain bullets.

Who is making heavy 20’s, at least 45+ and up grain customs. Looks like Berger is out?

Barrel wise, who do you guys lean towards? I am thinking a 3 groove 1-9”?

Lol, help me spend some $$$$
Jeff

If you think the extra 200.00 is worth more barrel life i would think long and hard about getting Bartliens new Mod400 steel its probably worth it if plan on shooting it alot.
I see no reason to go faster than 1-9 it will help when you get some rounds on it and the throat gets some wear too.

I have a 20BR that has been shot at some long range pds and a few groundhogs using 54 grain hp bullets that works great at extended distances when it's necessary. Its likely capable of far better long range accuracy than I am at my age.

We all shoot different cartridges for different reasons, and no one answer is right for all. If all I shot was pds in well-populated fields, I'd probably be perfectly happy with just a 20VT inside of maybe 400 yards. But life doesn't seem to work that way when there are pds in the next county over from your field bench and coyotes that need to be hunted too.

Just me rambling..... -BCB

Even though Berger has discontinued their .20 Cal 55gr bullet they still, or at least have so far, do special runs of them.

Graf & Sons currently has them in stock. https://www.grafs.com/catalog/product/productId/797

Default Improved 20 BR

I have a custom 20 Tejas which will shoot a 40 gr. VMAX at 4450 just a little felt bolt lift. Have not shot any 32s. I built it for long range rockchucks. Its my Ferrari. Don't shoot it much kind of a shame.
