I'm just changing over from WS2 to HBN, and am about to patch my Dtech 17Rem.....I usually just put some powder in a spoon (not in front of the wife) and pour alcohol in slowly, stirring it into what I think of as a "slurry".....liquid but more solid than liquid.....if that makes sense....

Let me know how yours works out.....

Maybe someone will come along and give us a formula!

Kerry--Here's information I copied from a Web site listing the recipe where they used Grade AC611 for mixing up barrel treatment:

1 tablespoon of AC611 to 16 ounces of 91% rubbing alcohol or

1/2 tablespoon of AC611 to 8 ounces of 91% rubbing alcohol if you don't want half a quart of the mix sitting around.

If you want to mix even less you could mix one teaspoon of AC611 to 5.33 ounces of 91% rubbing alcohol and have even less mix sitting around

Shake well

Run 2 wet patches of the mix down the bore

Go shoot

If my memory serves me right, this information is from Tom Madden of TAI Lubricants, P.O. Box 1579, Hockessin, DE 19707. They sell the barrel treatment grade of hBN (Grade AC611)and the bullet treatment grade of hBN (Grade HCPL). One ounce of the C611 barrel treatment hBN costs $15.90, plus there was an $8.95 shipping and handling charge too!!!

I was wondering if you're using 91% alcohol, the other 9% is water. Would that be a good idea to leave in the barrel??? I'd think something like Kroil would be better. I use 91% when cleaning but follow it up with a kroil patch.

It probably would make a difference, if the patch was covered 9/10 with straight alcohol, and 1/10 straight water...but that isn't how it works. The water doesn't settle out. The alcohol will help that water evaporate right away, no big deal...plus you already lubes when you get done cleaning anyways. Makes sense?
