Very well spoken Dean. Even among us, now days, some with anti-hunt, animal right groups come on board and make comments, about someone's hunt or kill.
They seem to have the opinion that divide and conquer will work even with seasoned hunters. It might with some, but the majority see what they are trying too do and just let them spout nonsense and let it go. |

Dean, the difference is you are not 9yrs old, you were not shooting at 750yds and you had no control of how the bullet reacted when it hit the moose! I don't blame the little boy for any of it, that should lie squarely at the feet of the one who allowed it.
Have I ever made a bad shot on a big game animal- NO! Where I live and hunt in the mountains, 100yds is a long shot and the last two bucks that I had the opportunity to shoot were hardly more than the rifle barrel away, so I did not pull the trigger. I am an old mountain boy, I was taught you hunt an animal, you don't send artillery fire. Now for the other part of the answer. When coyotes have come in to kill the sheep, I have probably made a few bad shots, but got the right results. On called in coyotes- NO, because I choose when and if to pull the trigger. Qaz |

The difference is your judging him because of his age which is B.S. Unless you know the skills you have no right to judge mountain boy or not. You are literally judging because of age and pics and have no clue.

I agree with the comments about time spent with a son, and did notice the fathers comments about when he was that age. The time spent with a family member will always be remembered.
I was going to stay out of what followed but after thinking about it I thought I would make the following observation/comment. The following is an opinion made by a member of this forum "IMO mighty irresponsible shooting that far at game." To me this is a personal opinion (IMO), probably based on experiences or observations during his lifetime, and I certainly didn't look at it as an opinion full of "hate", a blunt opinion but definitely not hateful. Yet to me, while the following is labelled as an opinion "Don't listen to haters." I consider that to be a very strong "label" to be calling another member of this forum, and in my opinion when language like that is used in a forum it is quite often used to start arguments and divide members of a forum as well as to diminish the other person. It also, in my opinion, lowers the tone of this forum. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone is entitled to disagree with that opinion, but I, and it seems others on this forum would expect the opinion/disagreement would be done in a civil manner without name calling. A question: Who is right when it comes to personal opinions? and will you change that persons opinion by saying they are wrong, if not what are you trying to do by saying they are wrong, and if you say they are wrong what makes your personal opinion right? I applaud the original poster for not responding and starting an argument. I will now put on the firesuit for the flame war (something that I thought wouldn't be required on here) but this thread makes me think it will happen. Kiwi BTW just for my, and possibly some other members clarity, are Antelope called "goats" Because I did scratch my head wondering that after the post said "goat" and the photo's showed an Antelope. Goats are a totally different animal here in New Zealand. Last edited by Kiwishooter; 10-17-2021 at 05:43 AM. |

Kiwi- I think part of the problem, especially in the U.S. is the popularity of shooting big game at long distance. To be honest, 750yds is not a long shot according to the claims made on some of the long range hunting forums. They also post video of the hunts and they seldom turn out well depending on how you look at it. We all benefit from the new long range cartridges, rifles and scopes. But the skill to use them at long range are lacking in most people, not all, but most.
With the price of a Elk, Sheep, Mt. Goat (take your pick) hunt, along with limited time and people start trying to make shots that can be iffy. I think elk (Red Stag over there) hunters are the worst for this. They post video of the hunts and the animal runs way too far after being hit or it is never recovered. It is sad to see, gives the anti's ammunition and our gov't an excuse to close public lands to hunting! Qaz |

No flame from me, as I pretty much agree. I have opinions on nearly everything, I keep 98% of them to myself and the 2% I talk about only happens if someone asks a direct question. Otherwise, what I think versus what they think only matters if it DIRECTLY interferes with my well being. Social media has made people a whole lot more willing to express their opinions with a negative and aggressive approach to anyone who disagrees, not something they would do face to face most of the time. My Grandfather lived to be over 100 years old, not because he knew any secret to a long life but simply as a result of knowing enough to mind his own business. |

Very good post Kiwi.
Those so called antelope/goats/speed goats, etc are slang names given to the American Pronghorn, by many. |
