Which primer for .17 Squirrel?
Is the Rem 61/2 too much? Is a small pistol primer better?

6.5 is perfect for the Squirrel. Talk to Kevin Harrington about it, he has only shot the 6.5's in the Hornet case.

primer
I've used both 6.5 rifle and the small pistol on my 17 Squirrel and see no difference at the range. I didn't chrony them but POI was the same.

Thanks, I'll give the 61/2 a try. Small pistol primers are hard to find anyway.

6 1/2s are almost impossible to get up here but Federal Small Pistol is no problem. Hornet Bee and all their derivatives we use the Small Pistol primers. Much more consistent SDs than small rifle or benchrest CCIs and way better groups, far less vertical stringing. The 6 1/2s might be just as good but have never been able to get any to try, besides the Fed SPs are less than $30/1000, so cheap in comparison the Br or CCI 400s.
