Question How long for a barrel?

Ordered a .17 cal, 1:9 twist from Jerry Wilbanks back in early May. It was a Shilen and he had to order it from them as he didn't have any in stock.

Coming up on almost 3 months now, and no barrel.

Spoke to Jerry once and he responded to 1 e-mail that he would reach out to Shilen and let me know. That was about 2 weeks ago.

Am I just being impatient?

Be grateful you don't live in England. Three months is tedious but not unusual. It will be worth the wait.

Like LT17 said three moths is not that bad when i think my pal Tony waited 18months for his Coopers 17AH, you could send him another email asking if he found out any info on the barrel.

Alan.

By the way we live in England.

My PPC had has a Shilen on it, built early 90s, delivery was around 6-9 months then !!. Most quality barrel manufacturers have a waiting list, thats why they have stockists.

Default barrel makers

Alot of barrel makers will make runs of certin barrels when their machinery is set up, usally your waite depends on when you entered their cycle.Small bores are very demanding of boath the machinest and machines.Frank C.

Been shopping for barrels a little myself lately. My understanding is that most makers are running approx 16 weeks, maybe more depending on what you want. Hang in there, it is getting to a time that they should be able to give you a fairly accurate delivery date, though.

I ordered a custom contour 17 cal. from Pac Nor back in March and just received it last week. That was just shy of 4 months. (7-9 week quote) As Bandmiller stated and I agree, Small cal. custom stuff takes time...... On the bright side, it's getting fitted and chambered now.

When I was going to start on the 17Tac rebarrel on a Savage 16FCSS, the wait from Lilja for a sporter type was 12-14 weeks out. WOW! So I thought about it more and Ordered a Remington varmint contour that they had in stock and did the rebarrel on a Savage Predator. I called my smith before I bought and he said he could turn it down without too much problem. I ordered it and had it with in a few days. Then it sat under my reloading bench for about the time, the wait, was on the sporter barrel LOLOL But I am at this point I went with the Predator though. Now I am waiting for it to arrive.
