Lightbulb After......

......straightening more than a few Dewey's over the years, I bought a few Bore-Tech coated rods. So far........so good.

Anyone else tried them?

IF he's still around here, Denny Phillips with Ivyrods can't be beat imo.

Hell of a nice guy in person too. Used to help sponsor this board.

Bearings in the handle, hardened stainless.

Just do a search: Ivyrods, I just checked, still up.

I bought a cheap Chinese carbon fibre rod for my 17 as a temporary measure years ago till I could get a good one. Could not be more pleased with it. Never needed to replace it

Been using the same 17 cal Dewey for 10 years and no problems and it has been used a lot having two 17AH, a 17-222 and a couple 17HMRs.

I had issues bending rods. I solved the problem by PULLING the brush and patches through the barrel. breech to muzzle. Nothing bends.

Then I got tired of cleaning a 17 hmr. and solved the problem better by just not using it.

These are all I use anymore, other than a range rod that lives in the truck.

To be fair I should say my 22 cal and larger Dewey rods have been just fine. I went thru 3 17 cal in 6 months. While talking to Neil Jones he suggested his rods. They are spring steel. I've laid on these rods a lot in the last 14 years with no problems. I've thought of trying the Ivy rods but the Jones keep working plus I have a back up pair of rods just in case the current rods would fail.

I also have a tipton rod, which at $55.00 was a bit high, but a good rod.
I also have 2 Dewey's in the junk bin of old rods - that aren't usable any more - can't get them straight enough to suit me- junk at $35.95 each.
KleenBore blue coated .17 rod is good as well & inexpensive too.
