Default CZ 527 to a 256 win mag, Thoughts

Sitting around with a poisoned toe and i'm bored, thought you fellas might like to kick this around.

I guess we can call small cal got to thinking this might be fun on a hornet action just not sure there is enough meat on the bolt face to machine off for the rim, then there is the magazine problem, would a hornet magazine fit the case, maybe a 7.62x39 would be a better choice to play with.

Just felt this little round might be a good all purpse walk about rifle

I bought a 7.62 x39 CZ action with the idea of a 22 Jet and /or 357 Mag rifle ( same case/ head dia as 256). The 2 cases slip under the extractor of my action but it will need some polishing. IMO forget the thing feeding from the magazine. The bolt of a 223 may be able to be opened up for 256. I had 2 opened up to 25-20 and 218 bee. Build it Johno

You could do a rimless .256 Win mag on a .223 action using fireball or .223 brass. Easy Peasy.

I did the rimless 256 Win. Magnum in a short barreled AR-15 and out of a 12.5" barrel I could get up to 2600fps using 70gr bullets -- I think Sierra. The problem is the bullet selection since I really wanted something a bit lighter than 70gr. I used .223 Remington brass shortened and reformed using Lee 256 Win. Mag. dies. primers where CCI 450's and powder was Lil' Gun at 13.8 to 14.0 grains max. This was a test project actually for a friend and the barrel was Melonited so it might have been slippery and allowed me to really get hot on the powder charge. The brass did expand a bit at the base since the rimmed .256 round is fatter there but not by much and I reused the same brass over and over with zero problems. I liked the Lil' Gun powder but it can do strange things so I was going to try another powder but I moved on to other projects and never did try another powder.

Appreciate the thoughts fellas, the bullet selection would be a problem I seem to remember when Bill Oviatt built the 6mm Horny Toad his preference was for 25 cal but bullet selection knocked that.

A 25 built on the fireball case would certainly be appealing and probably a lot less work

Andy Montgomery did one years ago, called it the 257 EGGS, look it up in Guns and Game magazine, or if you want I could probably copy it and send to you.

NO more builds. yeah right.

250 Myra...............just saying.

You can always take a rimmed case and make it rimless or even rebated like this one. Same case, altered somewhat. Took 15 seconds or less per case, on the lousy little lathe I have, once I ground the tool.

Some time ago, I posted a picture having 3, .218Bee cases on it. One with normal .408" rim, then one turned to .378" to fit the .223 and one turned to .344" for the .22 Hornet bolt faces. Simple job.

found it.

That is very interesting what you've done on those cases and way past my skill level.

Maybe need to re think the 221 fireball conversion option.

Camel the toe is no better so I will sit around waiting for the antibiotics to kick in and come up with other fanciful idea
