Default What is a Remington 40X worth

I have the ability to buy a Remington 40X. It is chambered in 6MM Remington with 1 in 8 twist. It has a Redfied 20x scope on it. Seems to be in really go shape but the stock finish seems that it has had some chemicals on it that has messed up the finish some. My question is what in this set up worth. I might shoot it some as is and then possibly a rechamber or rebarrel.

Default I think I've been lucky ...

I bought a 40X .222Magnum with Unertl 2" varmint scope for $800.00 a couple years ago.My 40-X .22-250 thumb hole stock cost me $1350.00 more recently.
I would guess depending on condition your 6mm would be anywhere from
800.00-1200.00.I would really try to get it as they are awesome rifles.
The 6mm is a great round also, especially with an 8 twist.Do you know if it is a factory barrel or a custom?

Default well.....

First question, is it an original 6mm Remington 40X with a 1-8 twist or a custom? The 40X has a good value for original unaltered rifles, usually 1000.00 +. Sounds like what your describing doesn't meet that level of finish. If it's a custom, ie the barrel or stock is not original, then the value of it's parts. The action alone goes for around 6-700, again based on condition. Get 2 idjits on Gunbroker maybe a little higher. Clean original unaltered stocks can be found in the 150-200 range. Regardless, without seeing detailed pics, other then the value of it's parts.....it's a WAG. These rifles are like houses in that curb appeal really drives the price.

I am assuming the Redfield is a model 3200 which by it self is 500-750. They do not make good field scopes as the parralex adjustment requies several full turns if you are going from short to long range or vise versa. They also have a very small field of view. Have the barrel bore scoped, If it is in good shape with no fire cracking and isn't washed out in front of the chamber you should be good to go. That being said 1,500 is the most I would lay on the table if it is "the" rifle I really wanted......... I own two 40X's and both are wicked accurate rifles.

My 40X single shot in 6mm Remington S/N 05XXXXB has a factory 1/9 twist barrel and won't spin 105-7 match bullets fast enough, but the 95 gr. Berger shoots quite well.

Is it a 3200 or 6400 series Redfield scope?

John
