Default Spotting Scope-suggestions

I am looking at replacing my old Bushnell Spotting scope. Several years ago the front lens delaminated, When I sent it back to Bushnell the said it was long discontinued and no longer could be repaired.

I got a lot of use out of that scope. Realy liked it, especially its ability to see individual .223 holes on targets at 100 yards.

So how about some recommendation Gents---is there anything that will let me see 17 caliber holes to 100 yards?

What are you guys using?

I bought a Celestron Regal HD 80 a few years back and it does an ok job for me. I can see 6mm holes at 600 on a good day and there are days I struggle to see them at 300 when the mirage is whipping. That will be true with any scope. Celestron has been in the celestral telescope business for years but just started making spotting scopes a few years ago. I am 60 years old and my eyes are not what they used to be so for me to give an expert opinion on this scope is impossible. I believe they have a lifetime warranty but check to make sure.

Lady friend told me to cool my jets about a spotting scope until after Christmas...

Hummm, wonder what that means?

She was looking at-asking about Leupold and Alpen scopes a few weeks ago.

Read through this link:

http://www.allaboutbirds.org/page.aspx?pid=1039

It is the latest review of spotting scopes for some serious bird watchers at Cornell University. They know about optics quality......

Default TinMan....

Thanks for that link....that was a very informative piece. Nice the way it broke down scopes into budget catagories in regard to optics.

Thanks guys. They also have a guide for binoculars, which I found very helpful when I bought a new pair a few years ago. Check the link:

Keeper, yes she is starting to look that way...She is the mother of a former colleague. Colleague introduced us---hows that for a reference.

The very first time we talked she told me she heard I shot gophers and she had never done that. She asked me to teach her how! It was love at first sight.

I had ordered in the parts to assemble a AR Varmint rifle, and when I explained to her what is involved in assembling, she ask if I would let her do it...lost that gun for sure.

We have been talking via Skype and FB SMS for several months now and will meet for a first date-coffee, in Paris over New Years. After 9 days in Paris I will come away with a grand sight seeing adventure or a new hunting partner---maybe both.

She is watching this discussion she says. So guys carry on with your ideas about a good hunting scope...
