I've shot 40gr Nosler BT's from my Seekins SP15 with its 7tw barrel, I think they use Rock Creek barrels, and never had any problems. It actually shoots that Nosler 40gr BT ammo pretty well.

My 1-8 24" AR barrel shoots 40 vmax Fiocchi in to 3/8" and have never lost a bullet, but with rifle length gas system won't always pick up another round. A 16" 1-7 shoots them into about an inch, which is what it does with most factory ammo, again I have never lost a bullet. Using Western Powder CIP data for A2200, which is 3900ish fps for the 40 Vmax, I shot in a 1-9 Savage 26" and a 1-12 24" Remington 700 and neither lost a single bullet.

The only bullet I could spin to destruction regularly was the 50 gr. Remington PLHP out of a 1/7 223 barrel, but the same ammo worked just fine in a 1/9 barrel.

My 20 Extreme with an 8 twist Jury barrel can't shoot anything (reliably) under 40 grains. If they get to the target they are keyholed and it's more like shotgun patterning. I built it with the 55 grain Berger in mind and never considered that they would be discontinued and I would need to look for another bullet. A 9 twist would probably would have worked for them and may be a little more forgiving with lighter bullets but not sure. Fortunately the 40 grain Berger shoots just as well in that barrel.
Unfortunately for us up here there is a very limited availability of small caliber bullets. I get jealous reading posts with four or five different makes of small caliber bullets being mentioned, all of which are not available here. |
