A lathe makes a WHOLE lotta difference in projects.
Shucks I've even turned wood on mine for a couple things.

Just wish my legs would heal up so i could get back out there.
Gave up on the 14month old knee, and had it replaced again 1/13.
Doing much better on this one already.

Ray: What's become of Paul? Mighty sharp guy, lots of great input here.

Plastic guns scare me. IF n when I blow things up I want lots of iron in 'em.

Well holy crap where do I start.

Worked on the barrel off and on today and bi-golly I think I have a serviceable barrel. (need to dremel in the feed ramp tomorrow still)

So I started by using a chunk of 1:8 stainless barrel I had lying around (preferred 1:9 but hey it's what I had)

I faced it up, dialed it in, chambered it then cut the tenon for the stub.

Got enough tenon there?

Next I dialed in the 9mm barrel and bored it out as deep as I could then drilled the rest, threaded as deep as I could get it and then finished it off with a tap (I know, I know but I got a good 1" plus of threads done before the tap) parted it off and had a good laugh.

Introducing the new 1.5" 50 cal glock barrel!!! has a 28 twist barrel and nukes everything in sight.

Next I dialed in the muzzle end then profiled the barrel down to the final OD, put a quick crown on it, then I cleaned both the parts up and married the two with sleeve retainer.

Silly me knocked the edge of the barrel stub with a file out of habbit so I couldn't blend in the two pieces 100% DOH!

Then came the moment of truth......will it fit in the gun and can I rack the slide.....Eureka!

Barrel ended up at 5.2" finished length, round drops in and out like a charm.

I'm going to profile the feed ramp in tomorrow and load up a few rounds starting around 25k psi. I have no plans to worry about getting it cycling yet. I'm more interested in the workup and seeing what kind of velocities are obtainable.

Does anyone have any pictures of that 30gr calhoon dhp or any of Reed's 25-30gr offerings. I'm limited on bullet length and would like to see what i'm buying before I pull the trigger.

Even better would be length measurements and if I really want to reach for the stars ogive to tip measurements.

Thanks, Guys.

You can find some length measurements of various bullets on their database.

Appreciate that, it appears to just be a rip from the QL database which I have. Doesn't have the calhoon or Reed custom bullets.

Thanks, George

How about the NTX 35 grain Hornady ? Length is .728, with ogive of .225 by my measurements. If you give me your email in a PM I can send you a photo, or if you want to try a few, give me a address and I will send you some. Bill K

Appreciate the offer bill. those are pretty long and would eat up case capacity pretty bad, and not much to work with in the 9mm mag constraints. currently using a 34gr nosler at ~.525" looking for lighter but happy if that's all I can find.

took the pipsqueek out for it's maiden voyage and was happily surprised.

4.5gr of PP yielded an avg. of 1780 ft/sec

5gr yielded 1940 ft/sec avg

These are mild 25k and 30k psi loads so lot's left in it. no case expansion noticed but still need to bust out the mic to verify.

I've got two types that should be right up your alley. I don't think they're made any more, but there are enough in the boxes to make things interesting. They are Speer 33gr hollow points (a Hornet bullet), and some moly coated Sierra 30gr hollow points which I never saw catalogued. Got those from a now-deceased friend about 8 years ago. You're welcome to them if you want them, just PM an address. Both types of bullets are just a little over a quarter inch long.

Correction: The Speer 33 grainers are still made, available from Midsouth.

Has anyone heard of an Adder cartridge? (as in the snake)

Thinking of calling it the 22 Adder since it's a smaller sibling of the 22 Mamba I made

ETA: PM inbound Dungheap appreciate the offer.
