Hornady 15.5gr NTX, 17 FB
I did a search on the forum and found some info on Hornady's 15.5gr .17 cal NTX. The original post was last June, so about a year now.
Just curious about how it has performed for those who have used it, accuracy, velocities, terminal performance, and what works for you load wise in a 17FB, if you care to share. 25gr Vmax shoot so well for me I haven't seen the need to try anything else, maybe I am getting bored. Many thanks, Michael |

I have a sako L461 in 17 Mach IV with a pac-nor barrel, smithed by Bob Green. It shoots 25 grain under ½ inch consistently. But, I found that it shoots the 15.5 grain even better using 8208 with good velocity. Below is a work up with that combination.
Hope this helps. Dan |

Don't have a target to show, but my results are akin to previous poster, however I am using CFE BLK in the mind 17 grain, 18 shows max with the 15.5 NTX in my 17 Fireball. running around 2900 to little over 4000 fps. They work
as well of better than when I used lead bullets. And are very explosive on ground squirrels, rock chucks , rabbits and even a few coyotes. Bill K They are working well also in the 17 Hornet. |

I understand some places you have to use the lead free bullets. If you don't have to use the 15.5, I would avoid it. The initial velocities look impressive, but they slow down incredibly fast.
While I don't have any experience loading them in the hotter rounds, looking at the factory numbers for the 17HH comparing the 15.5 vs the 20, it's surprising. While starting out a lot faster, the 20 grain has caught up and passed the 15.5 at distances over 80 yards. I need to run the numbers and see what the on target speed is of the 20 vs 25. Impact velocity is impact velocity. |

Don't know the FPS out around 400 yrds, but I can tell you the 15.5 NTX in my 17 calibers sure knock the stuffing's out of ground squirrels and Rock chucks out that far. However most of my shots are from 100 to 350 yrds. Bill K |

twist?
I wonder if it's the spinning velocity that causes the damage ? The hoop strength of a jacket maybe at the red line when you launch it at such high velocities from my 17 fireball. That may be really helping your terminal performance.
