How is that possible? You are talking about Ground Hogs right. Where I live, after the hay is cut, you have about 3 weeks until the grass is too high to see them anymore

I seriously doubt he's talking about groundhogs. A hog the size of a size 12 boot isn't really that large.

Default Rock Chucks

The marmots we are shooting out West, (Utah, Idaho, Wyoming) are commonly called Rockchucks. They are Yellow Bellied Marmots. They are out and active from late February until early August.

They are marmots just like your eastern groundhog or woodchuck is a marmot.

The average full grown rockchucks is 8-12 lbs with some getting much larger.

I have killed as many as 200 in a single day on a 40 acre property.

Very common for me to shoot 15-60 a day.

The pictured chucks are about 18" long not counting tail, very fat and likely weighed about 14 lbs each.

The perspective on the picture may make them look larger.

Same here. I'm glad that you chimed in. I was just planning to call my optometrist.

No pics for me either.

But I've shot 'chucks with Stormbringer many times. His sizes and numbers are right.

Had a 200 'chuck day with him once and a number of five or six dozen days.

Here is an old (very old) picture of me that Stormbringer took with a few. Don't remember how many we got that day, but I know this was only a small percentage of them that all died near one another and were easy to get to.

Default Ground hogs

I’ve never had the chance to hunt them, but had no ideas that there were numbers of them like some of u guys are killing.
I do get out to shoot PDs annually though.

I remember that day well! I was shooting a new rifle and caliber, a 220 Swift. That swift was so much flatter than my 223 and had the worst factory trigger Dave had ever encountered.

Dave pulled the trigger........nothing.......pulled more nothing........checked the safety.......it's off.............pulled more and it finally went off.

Rifle was a Savage 112FV with the old trigger. Dave performed a trigger job on it for me later that week.

So many of the chucks on that property had orange not blonde flanks. We called them Orangutans.

What ranges are you guys shooting at, nearest/farthest on 40 acres.
With you getting 200 each or together on more than one occasion, how long before you shoot out that plot of land ?
