Daryl:

I haven't heard what fell in the foothills west of here.

Every few years they get a 5 footer though. i have a
picture of Granddad standing in snow almost level with
the window sill of his .1932 Chevy.
As I recall, that's not quite 5', crowding it though. He was
around 6'4" I think and snow was half way up to his shirt pockets
from his waist.

Don't snow or get cold here like it used to the in '50's.

Lake's haven't iced up in many years. I recall a few years
the local idjits raced VW's and BmW's on the ice til a VW fell thru.

Then the city outlawed it. Back then we had snow on the ground from
late Sept til Feb most years.

Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated! As the man said .
Had a couple shots of snow but not the one that'll stick till spring......yet.
Old guy stuff, a for real dose a the back sadness but to much good in my life to complain about stuff that most guys my age have some or a lot of. I'm what ya call "job security" for people in the medical profession.
Thanks for noticing my absence guys .

Good to hear nothings serious with you Doug.

Someone's gotta feed the medico's.

Backs: once a back, always a back!

Any elk hunting yet?

Sounds like you missed out on the snow so far.

Couple biggies around.

Stay warm, treat that lady well and feed the pups.

General big game season opens this weekend George. As you've noticed we've missed out on the snow so I'm not sure whether I'll go out or not. I have a pillar bedded slightly worked 700 in .300 Win and I haven't even fouled the barrel yet. That's one I can't use my garage log on !!!
Plann'n on hitting the range tomorrow if it works out, that means if the Lady of the house doesn't have something planned .
Takes about 3 shots, first one is high and right and the next two are center bull and 3 inches high. 190 grain Hornaday Interlocks at 3,000ish FPS, elk hate it! Carrying over 2,000 ft. lbs of energy at 500 yards. Sure hope I didn't curse myself by bragging up this rifle so much, it's just been uncanny accurate since I first got it way back when and developed that load.
Is a .300 Win small caliber ???

Doug: If you compare it to the 50 BMG round, yes. Bill K

Doug:

I used an '06 for years, quite effective.

Went out with a guy on a big ranch for antelope.
He had a 700 in .300 win, 150's.

Shot a medium sized buck in the guts at 80 yards.

We ran out to it and it was dead. My thoughts then was:

"damn, if they make a rifle that will kill game with a gut shot

I've gotta have one". And I do. 180 C/L blew up on a cow at 200yds.

No excuse in that at that range. I switched to 200gr GK's. Haven't
gotten a shot with those the few years I hunted, then I got sick and
haven't been out in 9 years. Just put a new barrel on it though.

Good luck. How's the huntin buggy doing by now? Shake it down any yet?

Default Hope you get to the range Doug....

If only to foul the barrel.
Then put some nice food in the freezer.
I’m sure if Nancy knew the magnitude of the situation she will let you go
Heck she might even want to go and show you how it’s done
Great reason to fire up the GMC
