Default 17 Fireball 25 and 30 gr bullet load info

First post with a question...... good way to start I guess.

I am having a 17 Fireball built on a Ruger #1 action with a 1:9 twist Lilja barrel (that matches the Ruger Varmint barrel profile) and was wondering about loads for 25 and 30 gr bullets any of you might want to share.

Also, does anyone have an opinion on the Berger 30 gr Varmint bullet that you might want to talk about.

I realize some may not want to share your info publicly so here is my email address: Huntschool@aol.com

These loads are for coyotes from 300 yards and in if that helps ya all in any way.

Thanks in advance

I use 18.8 grains of Benchmark and Rem 7.5 primers with 25 grain bullets. No idea how fast they are, but are most accurate in my 9 twist fireball.

I'm more of the school, that the 17 FB might not have enough steam at 300yds. Others with more experience might chime in, and discount my beliefs.

I'm a big fan of Ramshot's X-terminator. As always start low, and increase in small amounts !

X-Terminator is a great powder, love it in my .222. But, I haven't seen any for sale for going on two years now. Benchmark is a bit slower but works wonders in my .223, so might be about right with the heavier bullets in the .17 Fireball.

18 RL10x, 30 golds, cci450, 3590 fps, .4-.5" same rifle

Currently testing 25 vmax with LT-32. Will post results once testing is complete.

18.6 Benchmark for the 25 Vmax and 18.6 8208 for the 30 Berger. 8208 has great accuracy in the 25 but gives up too much velocity.

The 30 grain Berger makes a fine coyote round. I would easily shoot yotes to 400 with the 30 Berger. More than that time for a heavier bullet.

If you search 17FB on here you will find a ton of detailed load information

I run 19.0 gr. of H335 with the 25 gr. Horn. HP with average velocity of 3613 fps. in my Fireball

I'd be a bit nervous using the 30 gr. Berger varmint hp's on a coyote. The match tip bullets would be better suited, IMO.

Haven't shot a coyote with my fireball, but I use the same 25 gr. hornady out of my .17 Rem. and it works quite well.

Default 17 Fireball

I have 3 of them, 2 700's (sporter and HB) and a Model 7 Predator. They all shoot very well with 14.5 grns IMR 4227, which is a load in older manuals for the Mach IV, with 25 grain Rem PLHP's. I have shot 4 coyotes with the Model 7 and that load, with mixed results. All were inside 125 yards, 2 were spinners and ran off, shot placement was suspect tho. Tracked em down and shotgunned them. One was middle of chest shot and made it about 25 yds before expiring, last 1 was trotting straight away and was a back of the head shot, she didnt take another step. I gonna stick with this gun for a bit longer because it is so nice to carry and get a bigger sample. 300 would be stretching it, but good shot placement and I have not doubt it would work.
