I believe he was just referring to calling the coyotes. However your questions brings to mind a article or ad I can remember reading, a few years back, and maybe someone can add too it.
I believe it was a guy in PA that was selling a whistle type call, that you chirped or did something with and ground hogs were supposedly attracted to it and would come out and stand up to look around, for the source. Anyone recall or know about that ? Bill K

If you "bark" on one of these bulb squirrel calls, it will sometimes cause GH's to surface and look around. It also works in PD towns..........

I can whistle at about 110 db's, and if I "chirp" at about half volume, I can get both ground squirrels to stand up, and rock chucks to raise their heads for a lookabout.

Only bummer is sometimes my chirp must be interpreted as a danger call, as sometimes the chucks bail for cover as if I chirped "run like hell!"

Wish I could figure out this rodent chatter.

(Many times I've been looking at a shy and reclusive rock chuck behind a rock at 300 or so yards, do my chirp take the shot without ever removing my eye from the scope. When it works that is. )

if someone threw a baseball at your head and almost hit it, then someone yelled baseball you might duck too. chances are the ones that duck have been educated to the chirp.

Here in Pa like others have said we whistle to get woodchucks to stand up. Some call them whistle pigs for that reason.
With all this 20 vt or 20 practical talk I can't believe the 20-222 hasnt come up. It's a good one. 204 like velocity. Less powder. Still see hits like the VT, brass is as simple to neck down as the 20 practical. Just a thought

Heck, I stand up almost every time a groundhog whistles at me....and once or twice in my lifetime I will have to admit crawling back inside my own skin when an unseen groundhog cut loose with a whistle at close range....

Yes it is as good a cartridge as all the others, had mine for five or six years, still shoots under 1/2 inch after over 2700 shots, I have managed to convert around ten others to the magic of the 20/222 over here. I mainly use it for fox, crows, cats and roo culling, have also managed 50 or 60 feral pigs, a good number of feral goats, and even half a dozen fallow dear. I shoot for the head and mostly of night using a spotlight. Not very sporting, but most of my shooting is cull work thinning out ferals.

I just put together my first 20 VT this year, and it's boring accurate. The next time I take it out I'm going to see how many match heads it will shoot off in a row.

If you don't build one, then you will always wish you had done it sooner... I do.
