18gr
Yes, 18gr .172, I like them in 17fb, 17MIV, on down to 17VHA, from 4400fps down to 2600fps, they perform and are reasonably accurate. I never shot more than a few dozen at a time, so my barrel being clean really was never an issue.

Yes but not in sub caliber. The 142 controlled chaos is the most accurate bullet in my 284 win. Hammers game.

Anyone tried the LeHigh Defense bullets
Have some 18 grain in 17 cal and some 28 grain in 20 cal. decent accuracy, have not got them down to the same grouping my lead ones have done, but will work more at it, so I can use them when the non-lead goes into full force in California in July-2019. Am also going to try some of Reed's copper/brass bullets in both also and compare.
There are also some copper/brass one's being put out by Hammer bullets. You might look into the others also and do some comparing. One thing to note, so far when the LeHighs hit, they sure explode those little critters. Bill K |

Bill,
How do the Reed's solids group?, loads, powders, etc, I have tried them with H4198 in my 17VHA, and AA2520, AA2460 in my 17FB & 17MIV. Groupling was around an inch, which for where, what & how I hunt is plenty, as most shots are under 50 yds. I liked the H4198 in my 17VHA mostly due to the tiny case not getting over 50k PSI even if stuffed solid with it, using Rem 7.5, &CCI BR4. Hutch |

I am getting good results with the bullets from Reed's. Well under one inch with the 25 grain 17 cal. in my 17 Fireball. I will be getting some of his 20 and 22 cal for working up loads also, so I will have a accurate lead free load/s when this stupid lead free law goes fully in effect in California in 2019/July.
I would say get at least one box of his bullets and see how they work for you, as compared to the LeHigh. Bill K ( I will add that when I worked with the VHA, my best load and groups were with 10 grains of 1680 and the 20 grain bullets) In the fireball, I am working with 19 plus grains of Xterminator. Bill K,
Thank you for your effort and reporting, I would really appreciate knowing the twist rate on your barrels. I will be looking for 17, 20, 22 and 244 bullets to use after July, but I am afraid my barrel twists will be too slow for the most part. Thanks again, Marcos (elalto) |

Marcos: My 17 cal barrels are 1/9 and the 20's are 1/11. So far, from what I can see Reed's might not make a lead free for the 20 & 224, but that is fine as the Nosler lead free work super. Bill K
