17 Remington load question
I'm just starting to work up loads with a CZ527 in 17 Rem. The barrel is a 9n twist so I'm working on 30 gr bullets. My question is has anyone tried AA 2200 in the 17 Rem. I know its a little fast but I use it with 40 gr's in my 222 Rem Mag and it works wonders. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have a lot of it so if its a good option for the 17 I'd like to try her out.
I'm c currently using Varget but running low on it and would like to give the AA 2200 a try. |

I really like AA2200 for my 221FB and 223 with 40gr VMAX, but I think it is too fast for 17 Rem. For my 17 Rem with 1:10 twist, I like W760/H414, IMR4320 or even W748 for 25gr.

I will have to look at my notes when I get home. CFE 223 gave me some good results.

The fastest powder for the .17 Remington in the Western Powders Handloading Guide is Ramshot X-Terminator. It works for the 20 gr. bullets, but the 25 gr. bullets gain 200 fps when you get to A-2495, A-2520, A-4064, and A-2700.
Western Powders doesn't have data for 30 gr. bullets, but based on what they have for the 20s and 25s, I'd say A-2200 is too fast. |

Yea, I thought it was maybe to fast, works so well with my 222 Rem Mag thought I'd check. 30 gr. load data is very limited, guessing most 17's don't have enough twist to shoot the 30 grs well. thanks for the info.

Too fast?
I have the same rifle. Cz527 Varmint 1:9 .17 Remington and I had a heck of a time getting 32gr bullets to shoot. I was using the slowest powders possible. H414, H380, etc. I want getting anything much better than an inch. I finally said screw it and reached for cfe223 and bingo. 1/2" - 3/4" 5-shot groups out of the gate.
Try things they may just work out. I have a thread that chronicles it all under the reloading forum. Andy |

i too picked up a cz 527 in 17 rem this last go around. I'm using a 30grn nagel with imr 8208xbr, 22.4grns gets me moving 3990fps. It slaps coyotes pretty hard. I'm really impressed with this combo. One thing I wish cz would do is thread the muzzle on these rifles. I had to wait tell I got it back from the Smith to get it going. Im a considerate shooter. Sounds like a 22 now. The smack is louder the report.

FastPPC: I have had a Wood Stocked CZ 527 Varminter in 17 Rem for many years now. I only use H4895 powder and Hornady 20gr & 25gr V-Max`s and Hornady 25gr HP bullets. All three bullets will shoot a 1/2 to a 1/4 inch groups on a regular basis. My little CZ 527 rifle is just turley amazing on any thing and everything I use it on, from Varminting Hunting or Range Work. I have never had any type of problems with it whatsoever. I shoot this rifle alot and I like it more every time, I shoot it. Also it is very comfortable for any Old Man of 75yrs of age to shoot.

Howdy mate, I have not been on here for some time as I forgot my pass word lol but I have the same rifle and a rem 700 BDL in 17 Rem. I can run 25g Bergers, 25g Vmax and 25g Hornady varmints at 23g of ADI 2208 which is your Varget with excellent results in both rifles. However with the Bergers I got the best results with CCI primers and the other loads run Remington 7 1/2 primers. It would be good to play with 30g projectiles but none down under that I am aware off. Saying that no issues on critters up to the size of dogs.
