Default .204 ruger load data

My new savage model 10 predator hunter max 1 just came in and i am trying to get a head start on developing a good load. any input on good loads would be very appreciated specifically if anyone has loads developed in the same rifle. I'm planning on using benchmark, varget or h4895 for the sake of temp insensitivity but have many different powders on hand and open to use. also wondering if anyone has found a sweet spot for coal length in this rifle. I've done some work to find where the lands meet on the bullets i have and they seem to be way out there which sucks cause mostly best accuracy is closer to lands which is where id like to seat the bullets if bullet ogive and freeborn let me. thanks for the input. SR.

H4895 is a good choice. No 32-35 grain bullet will come close to the lands with a factory chamber. The 39-40 grain bullets can be very accurate, but many are finding that what is supposed to be a 1-12 barrel is not and some guns won't shoot them without a keyhole. You probably find that the jump does not make as big of difference as you think it would. H4895 with 7 1/2 Rems , any 32 or Berger 35 should shoot really well. The 39 Sierra often shoot the best of the 39-40 grain class, but I think this is due to being a little more tolerant of a little slower twist barrel. The heavier bullets seem to shoot the best at or beyond, "a little" max book loads. Nosler/ Norma brass is great, WW and Rem have both been good in my eyes.

i wish i could find some 4895 cause that is the powder i would start with, specially since hodgdon makes it in the extreme powder line. don't think I've heard anything bad said about that powder or that someone couldn't make it work for there gun. was hoping to shoot today and see how it does but no go it was too windy to do any good shooting. hoping that it shoots well and that its capable of shooting those 39 gr. sbk well. those 35 gr. bergers have been on my mind too i shot 25 gr. bergers out of my 17 rem and they are awesome.

Default Go to the .204 Ruger site

They will tell you H322 most accurate powder tested.

Had a buddy got a .204 he tested everything under the sun. I kept telling ole Irv to go to H322 finally after months he gave up and tried it. The results with a 32 Gr. Blitzking at 200 yards were .532 five shots.

I have used 27gr of 8208 with 39gr SBK's in several 12 twist rifles with great success.

Before I turned the Max 1 into a 17Tac, as a 204 it was awesome shooting 40grn Bergers with Varget. Cant remember off hand what the load was but I was impressed how it shot right off the bat with loads that was meant for another gun.

I used to shoot Benchmark out of both my 204's. About a year ago I switched to IMR8208XBR and never went back to Benchmark. Shoot 40's with a load similar to Hotshot's that chronys around 3,850 fps. Shoots 32's at 4,100, both with good accuracy. Zeroed at 100 yds for 40 grainers, 1/2" high with 32's.

I've tried 8208 with both the 35gr. Bergers and the 39gr. Blitz kings and had excellent groups. The accurate 2520 is another good one but it isn't an "extreme" powder. Good luck.
