Default Savage QC?

I'm wondering if Savage is having some serious QC issues, as today I read in the paper that another of their 110 muzzleloaders has blown up. The photo showed a stainless action/barrel with the barrel blown up and split almost the entire length. The shooter suffered serious injuries, and apparently he is not alone.

The article said there are multiple lawsuits filed against Savage for marketing sub-standard rifles; inferior barrel steel was the listed culprit, with Savage being aware of the issue.

Not a Savage owner or fan, but gee wiz, multiple split barrels? What's up with that?

(multiple split barrels? What's up with that?)
JMHO but:
First thought is, somebody doesn't know how to load a muzzleloader.
A charge of 50 or 60 grains of black powder is good so why not go to 100 grains and really get out there? But we all know it's Savage's fault.

Know of more than one muzzle loader blown, barrel or chamber area, around my neck of the woods and they were all due to shooter error. Overload or double projectile from not watching what they were doing. And they were not savage brands either. So don't be too quick to blame just Savage. Bill K

Bill, I'm not blaming anyone, but before you come to judgment, perhaps you should read the entire article, as the last shooter/victim had been shooting his rifle for years with the same load, then on a hunt, it blew for no apparent reason.

Inferior metallurgy/barrel steel has been proven (so far) to be the culprit. Let's face it, if you buy a Savage, you buy knowingly that you are not buying the crème of the crop in terms of rifle quality.

The last shooter lost fingers and has extensive nerve damage, so a hefty lawsuit is in the works against Savage. Bummer, as the manufacturers have enough liability to deal with on a regular basis.

Late Edit: As a lark, I Googled "muzzleloader blows up", and I got numerous images and articles on this subject. But it seems almost all of the reports and images are of Savage muzzleloader rifles. Draw your own conclusions.

Rick. I am not blaming anyone, for their opinions. Just making a statement from what I have seen personally. Have dealt with firearms for many a year, along with personal experience from 28 years of LE and being a certified firearms instructor ( by the way in the first class started at the LA PD academy, with Jeff cooper and others way back in the early 60's) and doing Hunter Safety instruction, for some years. A person can see and hear of problems with various companies, their products and service, and while some can be true, most firearm accidents, damage and injuries are caused by carelessness on the person's fault. Just saying and not putting anyone down, for their opinions. Bill K

Rick is not off base.

From the Link:

"Savage Arms started making the 10ML-II in 2001. It was designed to withstand the use of smokeless powder, which appealed to some shooters because it didn't require the same messy cleanup as black powder. The company's knowledge of the barrel problems is becoming clear after years of lawsuits."

I understand that savage made 2 muzzle loaders, 1 was for smokeless or black powder and the other was for black powder only. I am not sure but think one was sold by bass pro and was the black powder only gun.

Exactly. And, I have never had a problem with Blue Dot, and 4300 fps is safe in "my" gun, The Brass "should" take 70kpsi and last 25 reloadings... Did they get a bad batch of barrel steel? IDK. Kind of Like the Sako 75 a few years back. Not a fan of a smokeless powder front stuffer myself.
