Yea,,,, that went over my head too, but then, I've never shot a record group so what do I know?
I've had good results with Lock-Ease too, but I am starting to see the cold bore syndrome again in one of my premium barrels that's got quite a few miles on it. I'm no expert, but that alone makes me think it may indeed be a rough barrel. I've never owned a Lilja barrel, but from what I've seen/read they make a great 17cal barrel. Any of em can and will make a stinker now and again though. You might want to talk to them and/or your smith just so there's a history started on this particular barrel. Then, shoot the hell out of it, and see if it comes around to your way of thinking. Don't blame ya for not tolerating a cold bore flyer on a hunting rig, but I'm sure you'll get it worked out. Luck Charlie

Great news. After 25 rounds down the new tube it's not creating a clean bore flyer anymore.
Now I can get serious about load development. |

That clean bore flyer may have been created by your finger. Larry

K22,,a shooting buddy of mine had a 17 Tactical,, Built by Nesika,, A Nesika/action / Lilja Barrel /Jewel Trigger/Mc Stock($$$$). He had unexplained flyers for the first100rds. Then they dissapeared. It shoots fantastic with the 30Golds. Just the Barrel braking in process.
(Frequent Flyers)---I thought you were trying to collect points on you Airline Tickets!!!

That's good to know maxscm. I have about 40 rounds down mine and those first 2 shots from a clean bore are shrinking. Enough so that it could be the trigger finger now. |

I don't think there are any absolutes here. My shooting partner and I have experienced this over time -- sometimes to the point where that first shot is really, really off the mark, sometimes just a little, sometimes not at all, so our habit with most of our rifles is to simply shoot two foulers to eliminate the possibility. We're not doing matches or anything like that, but more often than not, it eliminates the question mark on that first round on target. Now I don't mean to say that a finger malfunction can't put the coon tune on any shot in the group, but most of the time one knows that before you check the target. D@mn human error!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
