Default The Kimber is back

Well the bolt is anyway. After Remington paid to have my bolt faces fixed from their bad primers I finally was able to start working up a load for the Kimber in 17 Rem. New Rem 7 1/2 primers and a new boltface really helped. This is the third time I tried this load of 23.9gr. of IMR8208XBR. 24.0 gr. would open the group up and 23.7 would too.
Now I'm working on a IMR4320 load and a 8208 load using Chappies Genco 25gr. 7-S bullet.
This is as good as I can do with such a wonderfully light weight rifle.

Default Nice Jim

Real nice!
Never tried that powder but I've burned a keg of 4320 in 17Rem's and have yet to see one that didn't like it with 25gr pills.

Again, well done. You're the only guy I know that's as "Nutz" about the 17Rem as I am. Sure would be fun to get togeather for a hunt someday.
I'd even trade rifles with ya for the day as long as I could frisk ya first to make sure you didn't have any Krylon hidden in your underbritches.
You'd feel right at home behind my old Classic.

Charlie

I guess "Nutty" would describe us.

And what a hunt that would be. And just because I would be wearing pants with the crotch around my Knees doesn't mean I would hiding a can of camo krylon in there. You can trust me, I work for the Government.

Said it before and I'll say it again, "Nice Rifle!"

Thanks Doug.
Varget is a powder I have never tried, but I do have 8lbs. of IMR8208XBR.
My 204 just loves that powder too.

I've got some 30gr. and 28.5gr. bullets to try and I'm not sure if I should go with H414/W760 or Big Game? Decisions, decisions.

The only thing that 8208 does is get you to buy another new powder to put on the shelf, load up stuff and use up barrels just to test!!! VARGET works in a myriad of places!!! In the little guys, (222,223,222Mag,204) If VARGET don't work, then AA2230 or AA2520 will!!! End of discussion!! GHD

Got a lot of shelf space. Like Varget, lots on the shelf, along with at least a pound or two of pretty much everything else Hogdon and IMR make, but have also grown VERY fond of 8208. In my 17FB and my 204, just to name a couple, it really does shoot the lights out, and I can't get enough Varget in either to get the velocity I want.

I find 8208 to be very good in my 204 also. Ever since I started going to the meetings to over come the addiction, my calibers have narrowed down to 17 Rem., 204, and 223. 8208 for the first 2 and 748 for the 223. BLC2, H332, H335, AA2200, AA2230, ect., are like fine Wines.........they are aging nicely.

PS: The meetings are starting to loose there hold. I've been dreaming of a Hotrod 17-204 and I have a small bolt face MDL7 .

Well,,,,, I've read all the hype about Varget being some kind of miracle elixer for everything from the HMR to 30/06, but it's never performed well in any of my rigs. I did however, use up some barrels and waste valuable shelf space trying it though.

Jim,,,, if you ever get the chance and don't mind risking a few rounds of "barrel life", try some N140 in those 17Rems.
It'll make ya smile.
